Liberty Bowl

Liberty Bowl

Issued credentials to Liberty Bowl for Saturday's game vs Troy. We need a good show from players and fans alike. Bring your family to some meaningful November football. Should be fun!

RE: Liberty Bowl

The catch-22 with the Liberty Bowl is we have a critical home conference basketball game against UNT....on national television later that night.

If every star aligned perfectly for us to play in the Music City, it could be a fun day. If we are Memphis bound, fans will have to make a choice.

Not to mention the fact that you'd have to sit through ANOTHER game in the Liberty Bowl.

stAte fan here.  Never been to your town.  Is there really that much more to do there than in Jonesboro?  We just watch winning football teams here.

Yeah, we all like going to the store and buying liquor. It's awesome.

Re: Liberty Bowl

Still hoping to hear all there is to do in Murfreesboro.  There must be lot to do siince I see many posts/complaints about attendance at football games.  With the success of your team this year, I would think attendance would be great.

RE: Liberty Bowl

Kiplingers noted Jonesboro as a top ten place to live for cheapskates and MSN has noted Murfreesboro as one of the 12 fastest growing cities in the United States. You should make the trip next year and see the difference of living in Arkansas and Tennessee for yourself. The best thing my father ever did was move our family out of Camden! We've got great friends still there... but the quality of living is head and shoulders better than in Arkansas.

Re: Liberty Bowl Post Rating (1 vote)

Pro Football, Pro Hockey, all music genres concerts, several clubs in the Boro, but scores of them 30 minutes away in Nashville; Probably 8 - 10 malls/shopping centers, bigger than the one in Jonesboro, within a 20 minute drive; two theaters with 24 total screens; Percy Priest Lake located near by; Stones River National Battlefield (did anyone ever fight over Jonesboro?); Population of Murfreesboro in 2010 - 108,755 and median income $46,733.  Population of Jonesboro in 2010 - 67,263 with a median income of $37,214. If you need more, Google things to do in Murfreesboro, you can find lots of things for us to do  there.disbelief

I Bleed Blue; can't help it. Lets Go Blue!!!

RE: Liberty Bowl

I do agree on the cheapskate thing.  I moved back to Jonesboro about 3 years ago from the fastest growing area in the US (North Dallas area (Frisco, Allen, McKinney).  While the local folks in Jonesboro talk about "growth", they really haven't seen it.  I am in Dallas now and it seems to change every few months.  I don't think they have heard there have been issues with the economy. Murfreesboro sounds like a good place with lots to do.  I didn't come on here to start a war - was just responding to a post about nothing to do in Jonesboro.... and I can agree with that.  After living in many large metro areas this is really boring.  However, at my age, I am ok with that.  It is better than it was many years ago, but not where most would want it.

Good luck with Troy this weekend.  We want you guys coming in to Jonesboro where the game has the most meaning (winner take all).  That may help our attendence as December games traditionally don't go over well here.

Re: Liberty Bowl

Murfreesboro compared to Jonesboro...

Just look at two of the biggest measurables, population and enrollment.

Murfreesboro 110k Jonesboro 65k

MT 25k ASU 13k

If you don't think you're going to find more to do based off those numbers alone, I don't know what to tell you.

Let's be honest though, both are preferable to Troy.

Regarding attendance, for our new found ASU friend, if you look back over the years, we've led the way in attendance and have only just recently fallen behind as ASU and Louisiana have really stepped their game up. While our team is playing well this year, let's not lose track of the facts that we're coming off our worst season in the FBS era and this is the first year since 2005 that we haven't hosted an AQ opponent. If we finish this year strong and win our bowl game, I expect we'll have a reinvigorated fan base next season.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Hawks
Georgia Bulldogs
USA Soccer

Re: Liberty Bowl

We've had many, many dark years here... it is just nice to get to the level of many of the other teams in the conference.  I believe we are turning the corner and our new leadership from the President, Chancellor, AD, and Coaching staff are all moving in the same direction together.  It is very refreshing.
