Blue Raiders seeking most road wins since 1992

Blue Raiders seeking most road wins since 1992

But for whatever reason, Sun Belt games here (at MT) are not as much of a high priority as maybe they are on the road. That Western Kentucky game was fun. When we went down to FIU, they were (1-5) at that point and we couldn’t even hear down near the goal line because their student section was so loud.

“All that stuff put together just provides a great environment that we love to play in.”

MT quarterback Logan Kilgore said road conference games are more energized on the road than at home. It's not a direct dig at the Blue Raider fan base, but perhaps one of many reasons MT (6-3, 4-1) has played well on the road.

Here is the "energized" FIU student section he was talking about....

I think this is Logan's way of saying... our stadium has no energy and that contributes to them playing poorly. He's right, that stadium can be really lame sometimes. The press box side where all the umm non-students sit is dead, sit over there and try to stand up and cheer people are ready to have you arrested. It's like we collectively hold our breath for the first 2 minutes of the game until something good or bad happens. If it's good we cheer a little if it's bad we're basically done.

That just makes things worse. Their poor attendance was still louder then what we can do at home. I'm not blaming marketing, I think they are doing all they can. At what point is CM and company going to realize that you have to make the games fun to go to, build up the atmosphere. (I.e. better music, louder music, more off field entertainment, etc...) the same thing is going to happen in basketball, you finally have a great product on the court but the atmosphere is still dull. Brand new sound system and my phone rings louder then what they are playing. I'm a fan of the band, but their lack of ability to continue to learn new songs makes their performances boring. I'm not bashing the band, that comment is more towards the director or whoever is in charge of content. We need more 'canned' music to get the fans up and dancing. "Hey Baby" just isn't cutting it anymore.

I'll get off my soap box now, sorry for the rant.

Before I had an open airbox, my seats were on that side, in the club level.

My seats were right up against the pressbox.

I would stand and clap or yell when something was going good, and had folks look BACK at me with amazement that I had made a noise. THIS IS NOT A FUNERAL, IT'S A FOOTBALL GAME !

By the way, I was told last home game that my little $3 cowbell is not allowed any more at MT games-- too much noise. banghead

Yep. I sit over there. Blueraidersig came over and joined me for a game last year and as long as he didn't cuss, most of the fans came around to him. At first though, you could see their disbelief that a fan wanted to stand up and yell at a football game.

This year's home schedule really doesn't help. The North Texas game was an absolute disaster. Losing to ULM and McNeese have led to incredibly awful showings for FAU and UNT. The Troy game won't be much better with it on Thanksgiving weekend.

Nothing went our way with the schedule and our team's success this season. I expect the opposite next season.

I agree that our fan base isn't very loud, but looking back at all of our home games, the fans never had a chance to get loud like FIU would've in that game. We haven't had a game at home this year come down to the wire (like FIU or WKU). I'd imagine the crowd would be pretty rowdy if either of those games occurred in Murfreesboro.

The game going down to the wire shouldn't happen. The place should go crazy for first downs, not just last second wins. Do you think any of the other big programs around our level have that issue?

Getting new songs isn't as easy as you think.  You have to pay to get permission to use it.  Then you have to pay someone to write the music for all the different instruments.  Then you have to have the time to sit down and learn it and practice it.

So i do agree with you, it's harder than you think.

[Insert something here]

Yeah really made me mad so I left. Not a good way to get people to want to come to the game or be a die hard fan...if you act like one you get scolded

Happens. I've had looks over there, too ... particularly during the Minnesota opener a few years back. When I get going my voice pierces through all other crowd noise and people just turned and stared. I didn't care. My two former roommates were right beside me and they got into it, too so I wasn't alone.

Maybe BRZ needs to get a section going. Much like the 303 at Preds games.

Blueraidersig thinks this is a great idea!

I agree! Get the loud people all together and then the effect should spread. I'll be at the Troy game this Thanksgiving with our group (there's usually 6 of us there) and I will try to get the rest of them more involved.

GO BLUE RAIDERS!

From my experience

the "Where's he going? Nowhere" call and response is infectious among all age groups. If you have three or four folks at the start of the game, you'll have the entire section by the end of it ... assuming the defensive line/ linebackers do their job. biggrin

Right behind club level too so everyone in front will have to join in.
