A Code Red alert has been issued by proclamation from the mayor of the City of Jonesboro and will be in effect for this Thursday's (Nov. 8) Arkansas State University football game versus Louisiana-Monroe in a nationally-televised showdown of two Sun Belt Conference (SBC) first-place teams at Liberty Bank Stadium on the ASU campus.
Red has been designated as the official game day color for this Thursday's ESPNU televised gridiron matchup and the City of Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin is encouraging everyone to not only attend the A-State football game but show your Red Wolves pack pride by wearing red-colored apparel in his proclamation.
"On behalf of the mayor's office, over 550 employees, all our members of the city council and over 67,263 citizens of Jonesboro, we want to make this a great evening on Nov. 8, so to help do that we have also put this proclamation together that I am very proud to present to the Arkansas State Athletics Department," said Perrin.
The 2012 ASU football team, which sports a bowl-eligible 6-3 overall record with a first-place tying 4-1 SBC mark to date this fall under head coach Gus Malzahn, will square off against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks this Thursday at 6 p.m. (CT) in a conference game to be televised live nationally by ESPNU.
"This Thursday is going to be an exciting night for ASU football fans and it's certainly a game you don't want to miss," said A-State Athletics Director Terry Mohajir. "This proclamation is another outstanding example of the great community support ASU receives. It is time for the A-State Nation to rise up and show their Red Wolves' pride by wearing red and help us create a special game-day atmosphere for the entire country to see on ESPNU."
A number of pregame festivities are planned, which include a performance by the Jonesboro Firefighters Pipes and Drums along with USA military recognition, and a flag presentation by the ASU ROTC. Holt AgriBusiness is the game sponsor and will give away a Rally Towel to the first 6,000 fans in attendance.
A-State is presently among the Sun Belt Conference leaders in home-game attendance this season with four consecutive Liberty Bank Stadium crowds in excess of 20,000. As part of the Code Red and Hero Day, all military, fire, police, medical, and emergency service personnel will be admitted free with uniform or proper ID. All guests and family members will be admitted to the game at the $9 group rate per individual.
Prior to the contest, the traditional Red Wolf Walk will commence at 3:45 p.m. (CT). This Thursday has also been designated ASU Student Appreciation Day with a student tailgate featuring a live band to begin at 2 p.m. (CT) in the Pines on the east side of Liberty Bank Stadium. A-State students with proper ID attending this Thursday's game will receive a free t-shirt while supplies last and have an opportunity to win one of two 32" flat screen televisions along with several other gift cards and prizes.
CODE RED PROCLAMATION
Whereas, the Arkansas State Red Wolves Football team will take on the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday November 8; and Whereas, the game will be nationally televised on ESPN-U; and Whereas, the game represents a key Sun Belt Conference match up against one of the top teams in the conference; and Whereas, Louisiana-Monroe is trying to remain undefeated in the state of Arkansas; and Whereas, ASU has had four consecutive home crowds of more than 20-thousand; and Whereas, Arkansas State leads the conference in home-game attendance; andWhereas, a significant threat exists against Arkansas State continuing to lead the conference in attendance and winning the Sun Belt Conference Football Championship...
I, Harold Perrin, Mayor of the City of Jonesboro hereby issue a Code Red and place the entire City on high alert. I encourage everyone within the sound of my voice and as far as this message can be spread to ready themselves against this threat. Be prepared to attend the ballgame November 8th at 6 PM at Liberty Bank Stadium... Come early for tailgating and the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-off... Fill the stadium with more than 30-thousand fans...
Wear your Red A-State gear... Showcase Jonesboro and the state of Arkansas on a national stage... And help the Red Wolves take another step toward winning a Sun Belt Conference Championship and a Bowl game appearance for the second year in a row.
