Next Game-Texas Southern

Next Game-Texas Southern

Cajuns play at Texas Southern Friday night in the first road game.  Texas Southern lost at Big 10 Northwestern tonight by 30 in their first game.   However ESPN Magazine did pick them to win the SWAC.   My research indicates the tallest player in their top guys is 6'6".    It appears they have several short quick guys.  Despite having so young players in their first road game,  I will be disappointed if we do not win Friday.  I can't remember the last time the Cajun basketballers were 2 and 0.  It may be back in the Jessie Evans years.  Wouldn't it be great to have that occur this year.  Road trip continues Sunday as we go to Boise State.  Boise and Oakland are playing tonight

I saw were Boise beat Oakland by 8 points; that was a surprise to me as Oakland is a pretty good team and I expected Boise to be not so good.

May have been too many games on the road syndrome.

I suspect Oakland was beat by the road experience as much as Boise.  Oakland left Lafayette late Sunday afternoon and had to play on Tuesday night after a long trip.   We will face the same situation this coming Sunday afternoon.  We play Texas Southern Friday night and have to go all the way to Boise for a Sunday game.  That is why it is critical to win Friday's game.

It is very very difficult to win a road game against a SWAC team.

SWAC teams are not very good. Officials can only influence the game if the talent levels are comparable.

Michigan State is the sponsor of the tournament.  They simply are allowing games to played at other sites.   I suspect they are paying the travel costs for some of the teams.

Re: Next Game-Texas Southern

Oakland, Boise, Michigan State, and the Cajuns are involved.  Each team plays the other three teams in a round robin fashion.  Tournament winner is the one who performs the best in their three games.    It would be a SHOCK if it were not Michigan State as they will be at home for all three of their games.

I think we lost this game, because we are a young, inexperienced team.

But, I brought up the SWAC refs before, because despite having a post player that we pounded the ball to, he only got to the line once.

Also, they shot twice as many FTs as us.

Re: Next Game-Texas Southern

Also, we have the ball down one with less than a minute to go in OT.  We ask for a timeout and refs claim a travel occurred prior to the timeout.   That is unusual as Marlin saw the guy in trouble and called timeout from the bench.  Still, scoring only 19 points in the first half and being down by ten is why we lost the game.  Shots guys make at home were not made in the first road game.   As Slappy said somewhat expected for a young team.  The "road" experience beat them as much as Texas Southern.   On the positive side,  Elfrid Payton made two free throws with less than a second to go in regulation to send the game to OT.  I know he has struggled with free throws.  Good to see him step up and make them in a crucial situation.    It is disappointing they could not complete the comeback.   Probably exerted too much energy to get it tied up so as there was little left to exert in the OT.
