Big 12 Commissioner: League could be proactive on expansion Post Rating (2 votes)

Interesting read.  Cincinnati and UConn mentioned.  Would Cincinnati be interested in joining the Big 12?  Just wondering.

"Speculation has centered on Big 12 interest from Florida State and Clemson from the ACC, with Connecticut and Cincinnati among the most desirable remaining assets in the crumbling Big East."

By the way, this is being discussed on the WVU-Big 12 forum as well.  Some Big 12 fans are confused and some welcome the idea of expansion.

Surely you jest...we're perfectly happy living on the solid rock that is the Big East! (insert sarcasm here). We would sever a limb for the resources and security the Big 12 would provide.

Lol.

I would love to see something positive happen with Big 12 expansion.  Cincinnati, FSU, Clemson would be great adds.

Thanks for the encouragement UT.  I personally believe the Big 12 is the best place for UC to land.  Others prefer the ACC.  I think any and all of us would take either.

I still think that UC lines up best for the ACC. However, and I know that Card has mentioned this before, West Virginia has a huge issue with it's non-revenue sports. In order to make those sports (and basketball, to an extent) sustainable in the long run, there needs to be a travel partner. Right now, there is no geographic partner for WVU. It just won't work in the long run.

Noticed this one fan's comment on one of the articles:

12 seems to be a little on the low side. If the Big Ten expands again and gets Georgia Tech and Virginia then things get fun for the Big 12. The conference should make a run at Florida State, Clemson and Miami from the ACC. The 14th? Cut off the ACC at the pass and grab Cincinnati with the idea of growing the program. Cincy is in a very good location, sandwiched in between Big Ten and SEC country.  That said chopping off the lower quadrant of the ACC should be a priority. Cincinnati would give West Virginia a geographical rival as well as the 33rd TV market. This move would all but cripple the ACC and force it to take USF to replace the two Florida schools.

LOVE that idea!  I wonder if any of this chatter will give the ACC an itchy trigger finger?

For any believers in The Dude of WV he tweeted
Sources tell me the B1G moves on the ACC next week. SEC also on the brink.

I remain of the opinion that UC's conference future will be The ACC, not the Big12. The ACC that UC joins will look like The Big East without the basketball only schools. UC, UConn, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville, Boston College, Wake Forest, and 2 or 3 others who do not leave for the Big 10 or SEC.

Hands down, you get the award for being the most pessimistic poster across all message boards.

The award is named after Ron.

Pessimistic? Given the choice between the ACC or the Big12 UC will take the ACC.

So I guess you are the spokesperson for the University of Cincinnati.

Do you think Cincinnati is waiting to be given a choice in the matter?  Just wondering.

Given the choice, UC would take the most revenue or most stable situation.

Now that would make the most sense, if given a choice.

Well, I had a nice visit.  Thanks for chatting.  Best wishes to UC in whatever conference it ends up in.

Re: Big 12 Commissioner: League could be proactive on expansion

I read the 2 page WVU thread regarding Big 12 expansion. Amazing. It only took one year for the WVU fans to become snobby bastards. Check out these 2 quotes:

I was kind of excited to see they are now being open about discussing the expansion idea.... that is until I read the line about taking an addition that is "not of the ilk" of the others in the conference (i.e. the program is lower quality), and having the approach that "we can grow them."  Hello Cincinnati/Uconn.   Makes me wonder.------------------------------------------- --
I was thinking the same thing.

Obviously I would prefer either than the shattered remains of the Big East.
But if I had to pick I would chose the Big12 because I feel it to be the more stable and secure home.
Plus it makes more money than the ACC via its TV contracts.
Soon that margin will grow even bigger than it is now.

No doubt.  Also the B12 brand is MUCH stronger, the schools much larger/respected IMO.  I could look up size but too lazy ;)
