Some Insanity from ND

Some Insanity from ND

One of the craziest stories I've ever read. Goes to show how poor reporting is these days that it took this long for someone to realize it was fake.

I find it really hard to believe that Teo wasn't involved. If he got duped, well, let's just say he isn't the sharpest tack. Either way it will really hurt his draft value.

Crazy.

He'll fade away and do absolutely nothing in the NFL. Stock will fall quickly, watch.

I just read it...how crazy - and why it took this long for it to be reported is unbelievable. I remember hearing over and over again on ESPN about this story. Geeeeeeeez!

He claims he was victim of a hoax.  Really, really strange in every way.

This is crazy. College hoax? Investigative journalism (now an oxymoron) has long been dead in this country. Surely this angle is just anti-Catholic or Hawaiian or something?

RE: Some Insanity from ND

Wow. I do not for one second believe he was hoaxed and here's why.

A) He met a girl on the internet, never met her in person, calls her his girlfriend, and then she dies? Do future NFL players really start relationships on the internet? B.S

B) Suppose someone did start a relationship online with Teo as a hoax. Why in god's name would you fake death when you could accidently be the girlfriend of MANTI FREAKING TEO BS

C) Did someone actually concoct a plan to locate Teo online with the intention to hoax him. how would they even know it is him?

There is no way TEO was hoaxed.

Last line of Sports Illustrated article just posted reads as:

"Local and national media, including Sports Illustrated, were duped by the hoax."

No $hit!  Understatement of the year.

Didn't he answer questions about this girlfriend from various reporters, bloggers and writers throughout the season? Did he ever intimate that this girlfriend was an online relationship only? Is he guilty of embellishing this "relationship?" IF he was duped, he was duped by a friend it appears. I don't buy it either. I think he knew it was bull and he went with it.
Notre Dame needs to hold it's tongue on this. This is not a university matter or even a matter for the football team. It's not over and ND needs to distance itself NOW.

Just watched tape from Jack Swarbrick's press conference earlier tonight.

Wow! One of the more embarrassing thing I've seen in some time. Just Wow.

Thinking about the IrishGal's taunt in another thread, "Notre Dame is special.". Yeah lady, I guess so. Wow!

Ha ha, you're right!  Tonight is just the beginning of this.  National media will latch on to this and won't rest until the full truth is known.  The kid will crack.  That's why ND needs to wish the kid well and create space.

i didn't watch the presser, just heard sound bites. so i know those don't tell the whole story, but this kind of reminds me of the little jesuit school that could, our neighbors eggsavier, and how they handled the brawl aftermath.
basically take the tact that they are above reproach, and how dare anyone do anything "undesirable" to them. they are notre shame after all..they are always in the right.

when really, they are a bunch of pompous hypocrites.

I believe that he could have been hoaxed, but he went along with it, and made it all public knowledge that he
had a girlfriend, love of his life, and totally through gasoline on it and gave the media the matches. Why he felt the need to do all of this
we might never know.

I tend to be of the opinion that he was hoaxed initially.  He figured it out but continued to play along out of embarassment, then the lie snow-balled and he was in way over his head.  That being said, I'm not of fan of how ND handles much of anything.

Guys that age are dumb and foolish - I know from experience tongue

Can't even fully explain this to my girl it's so layered. Maybe he got "catfished" and felt stupid, or he's covering for his gayness- but then there's rumors of his daliances with other girls around campus (which I guess would have been considered "cheating"). And what of the NFL pro that said she was real, that they did charity work in some foreign country- the boat has definitely jumped the shark.

It seems hard to believe he was hoaxed......time'll tell.  ESPN said his parents said she had visited them.  hummmm.  I am inclined to doubt the hoax bit, on him anyway.  Its possible though.

Te'o said he spent all night on the phone with her for nearly four months straight, "sleeping on the phone with her." He either lied about that or he had a real relationship with somebody. Maybe not who he thought she was, but somebody. It doesn't pass the smell test. Those all night phone calls never happened. He punked us.
