Trust in Whit

Just thought I would drop by and let you guys know what I'm hearing about Cincinnati. First you have a great AD in Whit Babcock and he'w working hard to make sure Cincy has a safe landing spot. I know it may not look good now but when it finally shakes out Cincy has a good shot at landing in the ACC or Big 12.

Whit is, of course, lobbying the Big 12 with WVU's help. WVU is pro Cincy in the Big 12. The Big 12 has decided to expand, they must expand to 12 by 2014, but they may go to 16.

Cincy's best bet is for the ACC to implode and the Big 12 add four ACC schools plus Cincy and Louisville.

The Big 12 is going hard after FSU, Clemson, Miami and VT. If the Big 12 gets FSU the ACC is certainly done and I can't see the Big 12 NOT going to 16.

If that happens Cincy is on the very short list for 15 or 16. WVU and Pitt have fallen out and there is bad blood between Luck and Pederson. WVU will fight to keep Pitt out. WVU is also pro UL.

VT could easily go SEC too which likely slides NCST into their spot. That would mean the only viable candidates for 15 and 16 in the Big 12 would be Cincy & UL.

So for your guys the best break would be for FSU to end up in the Big 12 and VT in the SEC.

There is a slight chance that the ACC stays intact but only if Jim Delany decides not to move to 16. In that case you need to hope everyone stays put and the Big 12 needs 2 more for 2014 and adds Cincy and either ECU or USF.

Good luck, trust Whit he's a keeper.

Good stuff Atomic. Only point of contention for me is ECU? That's way off the radar to me, but who knows.

Yea ECU does seem a little off. I would think Boise or BYU would be an option before ECU noidea

A lot of folks have a lot of respect for ECU's program.
50-K per game for C-USA football I respect that.
Oddly almost nobody on this board.

I've put ECU down in the past. I take those worlds back. 50k is some good attendance. I think they'll be a good addition to whatever our conference turns out to be next year.

I've always favored ECU, but for FB only.

BTW, if the OP sees the B-12 going to 16 all of the sudden, it certainly differs greatly from those in charge, who insist 10 is perfect.

ECU's hoops I think is 6-3 and they hung in with UNC today... Losing by like 6.

Of course you trusted in Gregory too. But then again, even he tried more than you gave him credit for.

Old newspaper guys turned bloggers are starting to say that both UC and UConn would be in play for the newly formed basketball league with the departing seven. It would be basketball and all other sports. Football would go elsewhere. Where is elsewhere? I don't know, but maybe the MWC versus the MAC. Heck, maybe the Big 12 for football only?

Sign me up for the Big 12 thing.

Could start a bit of a bidding war for UC and UConn, suddenly their value may be more than anyone thought.

ECU doesn't get respect anywhere. Half the time they aren't even in tv in Raleigh. I respect their local fan base quite a bit but that's all it is and frankly there is no reason to believe it will ever be anything else ....even in its own state it will always be #3 at best.

I have always liked the FB they have played in recent years (with some nice upsets and near upsets). It's just the leap to the B12 seemed off radar IMO.

Re: Trust in Whit

ECU technically has the tidewater market and that recruiting area is valuable.

The ACC will lose 4-6 more schools and likely more. Cincy is currently behind FSU, Clemson, VT, Miami, NCST and GT on the Big 12's expansion list but 1 or 2 of those schools are headed elsewhere and you have a good shot at either spot #14 or #16 when the dust settles.

Whit is working hard. The best thing you can do to help is sell out your bowl game and show up in mass to support Cincy.

The bowl game is something over which we have control, if not much else.
