Tommy boy

Posted: 12/12/2012 10:38 AM

Tommy boy

TT was contacted by whit during a recruiting dinner (allegedly). TT stood up and left the dinner, never to return. The next day he was announced as uc' coach. He must have really hated west Texas.

Re: Tommy boy

And, according to a Dallas reporter, tommy and the reporter were talking about UC after the news first broke that butch was taking his get out of Cincy tour. Hmm. Did whit contacted him before butch took the tennessee job?

I'm a little hesitant to buy into that story...just yet.

But...if Whit had already started before Lyle formally took the TN job...good for him!  Go watch the TT AD's press conference from Saturday and compare it to Whit's when Lyle quit.

TT AD = DEER-in-the-HEADLIGHTS.  Completely unprepared in many, many ways.

I like Whit.  #WhitHappens

Re: Tommy boy

Coaching changes are a dog eat dog world. Notre Dame inteviewed B Kelly in October of 2009, halfway through the 12-0 season. It is what it is, dirty.

The only way I can see it changing is the NCAA move football signing day back to about April 15 and make Thanksgiving Day through January 15 a complete black out period, no contact between coaches and recruits may occur during that period. The NCAA will not do that because of the fear that the major football powers would leave the NCAA to start their own deal.

I think it's great, butch thought he was calling the shots meanwhile whit had already found a better coach to take the Job.

RE: Tommy boy

Whit has already admitted to having talked to TT several times over the last year.. specifically after last winter's CBJ tour of the US. I have no doubt that Whit contacted Tommy's people after CBJ declined to accept the extension, raise, and facility upgrade promises offered to him after the South Florida game. These two are semi friends working in the same business with an existing relationship. And if the kids didnt know he wanted out of Lubbock than i dont know what to say. It was one of the worst kept secrets in football next to CBJ wanting out of Cincy.

RE: Tommy boy

I don't doubt something happened at the dinner, but I have some concerns on the accuracy of the story.   Are we to believe Tuberville just got up and left mid dinner and left the recruits to pay the bill on their own and find their own way back home?   Wouldn't you think if he was going to leave that he wouild have begun talking to these recruits about coming with him to his next destination?

This all being said, CFB seriously needs to push back the recruitment deadline and enforce a rule that coaches need to stay with their schools until after the bowl games are over.  All this type of silliness (inlcuding what has occured with our prior staff) would be nipped in the bud.

Not to be outdone, I have heard that there is a video of the UT press conference announcing Butch Jones where the UT AD can be seen plucking a booger from his nose and eating it.  Anyone see it??

RE: Tommy boy

It was TT and a few other coaches. The other coaches stayed.

Welcome to the board, love your enthusiasm.

It's obvious that you pull alot of what you post here from other folks via Twitter.
You should either copy the Twitter link or at least give the tweeter credit for getting the information "out there."  I've seen you do it on multiple occasions.  Like you, I'm a passionate UC supporter and we follow alot of the same people.  I see it on Twitter and then I see it again here, sometimes verbatim.  Instead of other readers here wondering whether or not the info is credible, give up your source and let them decide.  It's not all coming from you and Twitter is not your private source.  Just my .02

Now you are seeing the slime ball in all his glory.  It proves that both Tuberville and Cinci's own lied about how it went down. There is a true difference between having character and being a character.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LURING THIS CLOWN OUT OF LUBBOCK

Giving "Guns Up" at Cinci presser. disbelief
Saying there were 14 teams in the Big12 during Cinci presser. ohlord

We remember how it felt to get Tommy, but within the first year we saw that this guy cannot be trusted with anything that comes out of his mouth.

Re: Tommy boy

On one of the two points in fthe article...about TT being evasive about long term commitment to Tech during the dinner. I have to tell you that having been through this process twice with my sons there is virtually NO COACH out there that is not evasive on that question.

It can be frustrating for a recruit, but it is everywhere.

TT fans - Unserstand your frustration, happiness, sadness...whatever. But read this...I am very happy with our hire. No amount of shouting at us will change my mind on that. There is risk in every hire and of course we will see how it plays out in 2-3 years...but for now, he has generated perhaps the second most amount of energy around the program in 50 years. Most of us are very happy. Sorry you feel how you do, but I understand.

Tech fans are 95% to 5% happy about this. I don't think you really understand how relieved we are that he is gone.

Don't feel sorry for us. We are excited for your hire too.  biggrin

The thing you should think about it the character of this guy and his LOOOOONG line of lies and deceit dating back to his early years in coaching. That too comes with this hire and should be in the back of everyones mind

Uh ok. Won't feel sorry for you. Just kinda entertaining how determined you all are to "warn" us. Very happy about our upgrade in coaches but it never occurred to me to go shout it at tne TN fans.

Re: Tommy boy

Well, after Michigan state did it, we laughed. When Brian Kelly and Notre dame did it to us, we yelled. When butch jones and (insert name of university looking for a head coach here) did it, we struck back. You're preaching at the wrong fan base.

RE: Tommy boy

I felt that he had talked to Whit before the day they announced Tuberville's hiring. He said in his initial press conference that he had a long night. Whit didn't say they hadn't talked before this. He said that he called and it was a 20 minute phone call to offer him the job. He may have talked to him earlier, but didn't necessarily offer him the job.

For a fan base that states it is happy that it is relieved and happy that he's gone, you sure do like telling everyone that you're happy about him leaving you.  When someone keeps telling me something without me asking, it feels like they are trying to convince me of something.  I honestly couldn't care less about what the Texas Tech fans feel about this situation.  We've lost three coaches in the past decade to higher schools.  I don't feel bad at all taking your coach.  Be happy he's gone and happy that some coordinator is taking a lateral move to be your next head coach.
