Bowl coaching staff falling apart?

Bowl coaching staff falling apart?

Already departed to join TN staff:  Janacek (DC), Mark Elder and Don Mahoney.

Pretty credible stories that Stripling and Bajakian are going too...and are already effectively working their new jobs at TN.

Grad assistants providing the game plan again?  (i.e. repeat of the Sugar Bowl).  Maybe this is why ESPN picked Duke to win the Belk Bowl last night?  flushed

This system of hiring new coaches ASAP to meet the recruiting signing day in the new year really $ucks in situations like this.

I've been surprised and disapointed to see recruits saying they spoke with coach Stripling about Tennessee. When he should be preparing his team for a bowl, he's instead trying to convince kids NOT to come to Cincinnati. If I were Whit and found out that was going on, I would fire him on the spot.

So do we know these guys are already gone? I mean, I know they were going to be joining Butch in Tennessee, but I guess I thought they were staying around for all the bowl prep, etc. and then would be on the road to Tennessee the minute they land back in Cincinnati after the bowl. This definitely has the feel of a team that's going to be in total disarrary heading into the bowl and looking forward to NFL prep/next season.

My understanding is the first three are gone already.

On the recruit side kirwenaj...there's been a fair amount of mention/reporting of that out there on multiple outlets.  Almost seems like a violation?  Not sure?

Even if it's not a violation, at best it's a d*ck move and shows a lack of respect to the place where you just spent you last 3 years "moving up the ladder."

Not a classy exit by Lyle and staff.  Players tweeting...not too happy.

Lets get the basketball team to coach. I would love to see the mean face on some of the football players.

Wow!  Players...including ex-players are hoppin' mad.  Cannot blame them.  Selling them all that 'family-BS' then showin' their true colors.

Quite a move by Lyle.  Wow!

Interesting how, at times, you think a person has such infallible character yet, when the situation changes, you get to see the REAL character of a person. I guess we're getting to see Butch's TRUE character.

Butch, you can't leave your staff in place in Cincinnati for 2 weeks? This would be to give your former players (The ones that performed and made you a millionaire) their best chance for success.

Tommy - let's go. Throw 'em all out, grab a couple of your buddies and coach the "Cats. I'll bet the players would prefer to be coached by a staff that is ill prepared (Through no fault of their own) but is committed to getting them a win than they would be a bunch of "coaches" (term used loosely) who are already checked out.

Butch could have left Cincinnati with a sweet taste in our mouth by having a press release saying you were keeping you entire staff in place to do what is right by the players. Instead, if you never step foot in Cincinnati again it would be too soon. Hope you get your a-- handed to you this year!!!!!

The only problem is, the whole team was pissed just the same when BK left, but there was no one there to focus it into a productive manner.  While I do like the fire in their bellies, they need leadership.

TT needs to step in now.  This team needs more than two coaches preparing for the bowl game, because I guarantee Cutcliff will have dook ready to play.  Not sure if the two staffs can play nice together, but there is a lot of work to do.  I'm sure the old guys need to stay for gameday continuity in language and play calling, but can TT help at least game plan?  We've already seen the results of having grad assistants game planning against a good, experienced coach.

I can just imagine how much game planning is going on and how much tape review of the day's practice is happening. Cincinnati/Tennessee sitting at home at night and they're thinking "I can either? A) Work on planning for the Bearcats' bowl game, or B) Begin recruiting for Tennessee.

Guess which one wins?

Re: Bowl coaching staff falling apart?

How many days ago was that Belk Bowl press confrence, where Butch stressed the importantce of bowl games and how we take them for granted... What a classless move to then turn around and take your coaches away from a team going to a bowl game

Ya you would think coaches gave a shiet about finishing what they started with their kids. The ones, as said earlier, that play and make their cash for them, the ones you gave all that BS too.........

They are playing Duke, they should not need a lot of coaching.

Re: Bowl coaching staff falling apart?

I don't understand the urgency for Tennessee. It's not like they will be going to a bowl game in the next 3 to 4 years. Don't you need 6 wins to go to a bowl game? In the next 3 to 4 years is Tennessee going to beat Alabama, Geogia, South Carolina, Florida, LSU, Texas AM. It is not going to happen!

Look out Ky, Vandy and Mississippi, UT is coming after you! UT will be bottom dwellers for years. Isn't it amusing the Tennessee is bringing in a lowly Big East coaching staff in to turn around their success in the SEC?

Re: Bowl coaching staff falling apart?

Only problem with TT trying to get involved is that he still has Texas Tech's bowl game himself.

There ought to be a rule that coaches cannot take jobs until their season has ended.
