Tennessee Vol fan coming in peace

Tennessee Vol fan coming in peace Post Rating (3 votes)

What are y'all hearing about Butch Jones leaving for UT? I'd like to know what y'alls generally feelings are towards him leaving or not.

Personally I think he should stay at Cincy. He's done a fine job, and I'm not so sure that Vol fans will welcome him well, even if he deserves it and is a good coach. Our fanbase seems to be picky and absurd sometimes.

I'd really like to see us go after Phillip Fulmer and beg him to come back. Either way I hope it works out well for everyone.

Thoughts?

I think he's a good coach. I don't think he's handled this well at all, but maybe in today's tweet universe it's not possible anymore?

I always thought he'd leave for a job like UT...was shocked he flirted with Purdue and Colorado. Truthfully, hard for me to follow and comprehend his path over this week. If UT had come calling on Sunday it woulda all mad sense to me, but the path that happened did not.

Anyways, being totally honest, I think he's a B+/A- coach and is a decent hire for UT but not a home run.

Thank you for the input! I guess that makes me feel better. I just don't want another Dooley...

One word: Charlatan.

Never expected this behavior from CBJ.  He's handled this so poorly I feel like I owe Brian Kelly an apology.

For his sake,  I hope he gets the UT job.  I don't see how the fan base can accept him back after this.

Good coach, best recruiter we have had.  Tends to be corny & kinda cheesey, but it works for him.

+1, he has handled this very poorly.

I think he will be good for your program.  Love Knoxville and been to the stadium 2X.  That is a fun place to watch a game.

He's declined the other two job offers, so if he decline the UT job offer too why would you guys be upset? May sound like I'm accusing you, but I assure you I'm not, I'm honestly just curious why you would be upset if he turned us down?

I don't think BJ is a home run like BK was, his coaching definitely cost us a few games over the past couple of years, I am having trouble envisioning him being successful at UT.

Butch has done a solid job here in Cincinnati over the last three seasons.  With that being said, we have and are used to a "next coach in" mentality here in Cincinnati and because it's obvious that Butch wants nothing to do with Cincinnati I will be glad to pack his bags for him and buy him a ticket out of town if it means we get to move on to our next successful coach.

This is exactly what I have been thinking, and is precisely what scares me....

Another word:  Munchie (I'd explain that one to you but don't want to relive those times again)

read this article:

http://news.cincinnati.com/art...uc-big-decision

I thought Butch was a different breed.  Like I always told people, I wouldn't want my son to play for Brian Kelly, but would have no reservations regarding CBJ.

I have no problem with him wanting to do "better", but he handled this sooooo poorly.

The Vols fans could really eat him up alive if things get sketchy.

p.s. You'll have to tell me what your reaction is the first time you see the Vols trailing after the third quarter and all the UT players running down the field chest bumping each other.

I don't think anyone knows what is going on. But from the outside it seems like he turned down the Purdue job when Colorado got serious. And from what we were told he had verbally accepted the Colorado job but then got the call from Tennessee so turned down Colorado. I'd be shocked if he turned down the Tennessee job if it's actually offered. Seems like he wants to get out of Cincinnati regardless but new "better" offers seem to be coming up. At no point is he turning down these offers because he wants to stay in Cincinnati and there's the rub.

I think at UT Butch will make them a better program. However, i dont see him bringing you to the level of UF, LSU, or Bama. THe guy is a strong leader, but the reason hes not elite is that he just isnt the best in game/ late game coach. His time managment is awful, and he has dropped every big game hes been in. (Tenn, Oklahoma, Rutgers (twice), WVU, (Louisville this year). Basically, hell have you guys win some gains just by what he does off the field, but dont expect him to out coach Muschamp, Miles, or Saban EVER.

CBJ is a good coach.  There is obviously a lot of venting and anger right now.  I don't think he will get you to the SEC championship game, but he will get you back to respectability.

I will have to root against UT for awhile (just until you re-hire).

First Dooley, now CBJ.  Why can't UT get higher profile coaches.  100K stadium in SEC with huge support and facilities.  I don't get it.

He's a good not great coach.
He's a player's coach. Get used to tons of cute sayings and team/family stuff.

And as is obvious by the goings on of the past week, not terribly media savvy.

You and me both...We're at such a low point in our program's history, and it sure doesn't seem like its going to get any better anytime soon banghead

The twitterverse is aflutter with Butch Jones-groans from all over VolNation.

It's like both of our houses are on fire - nothing left to do but sit back, roast a few marshmallows, and enjoy whatever views the fire may provide.
