Narduzzi- would be a step down for Hazell now. Besides, narduzzi has a great track record here with solid relationships. IMHO, Narduzzi would be a net gain over CBJ.

On a serious note...I am telling you guys that Mike Macintyre is a stud of a coach.  He built a $hitpiece of a program, SJSU, from scratch.  He enjoys tremendous respect from David Shaw and others.  He knows how to recruit, he runs a fun offense...if we end up need a coach, I hope we talk to him.

Hot commodity for sure. Mike Macintyre would be a good fit for Purdue.

Kerry Combs will be the next UC coach should Butch Jones leave.

In the current state of things UC would be unwise to bring in someone who runs a conventional offense. We won't be able to recruit what's needed for that offense consistently. We need another guy who will spread it out. They also need a head coach who will hammer the recruiting trail himself. I don't know who fits the bill but this would be on my wishlist

Tom OBrien would be an epically bad hire of biblical proportions.

The No List
Luke Fickell
Kerry Coombs
Tom O'Brien

I'd make a run at Tressel or Fulmer.

UC needs a name coach to recruit to what will be seen as a mid major conference. Bringing in a major name would show the ACC and Big12 UC is serious about football.

If they want to make a statement then they will make a substantial commitment to CBJ and his staff. That would make much more effective statement than letting CBJ walk and hiring Fullmer.

I think everyone's hope is that Whit can pull the rabbit out of his hat and do what it takes to keep CBJ. The names are suggestions is CBJ goes anyway.

too bad Stoops was picked up by UK...

But after seeing the 13.5 m plus facility upgrades offered by CU, Whit and Ono have a tough sell - but hopefully they make the right decision.

I guess we'll know soon enough!

I really like Tressel.  As I understand it as a part of his show-cause, if hired he would have to miss the first five weeks of coaching completely - no meetings, practice or games - butbut could recruit, hire a staff and fund raise/market etc.  He would also miss the first year's bowl game if applicable and give progress reports to the NCAA every six months.

The five years referenced in the show-cause would absolve him of all the above requirements.  If you can suck it up for five weeks and live with an assistant coaching the bowl game, you'd have a coach who can flat out recruit Ohio, loves being in Ohio, is a decent coach, and would get UC's name in front of the whole country.  If it doesn't work, you would have still stayed relevant nationally, and I can guarantee the cupboard would not be bare for the next guy.

You can debate how serious it was to try to cover up the whole tatoo thing - I can assure who a whole lot worse/slimier things happen in programs all over.

Of course this all assumes 1) CBJ actually leaves and 2) Tressel doesn't hold a grudge for us hiring Minter over him back in '93 tongue.

I am surprised as I didn't not realize Tressel was highly liked by this board.  I agree the Tatoo scandal was overblown, although his punishment (maybe not the show cause) fit the crime for not being forthcoming.

I think Tressel could be ideal.  All the factors you mention above + he is not going to leave for anywhere else (he was nearing retirement at Ohio State).  Could be a chance for him to reclaim his reputation.

One downside, however.  Tressel is a northern Ohio guy, not sure if he would view Cincinnati as "home" but as you mentioned he previously interviewed.

I would not support UC hiring Tressel.  At all.

CincinnatiKid - I think Card's opinion above is a more representative opinion of JT.  I personally never hated him - Gordon Gee & Co. are a different case all together.  I think he would be very effective in winning and keeping UC relevant.  The downside is, locally he would be a devisive choice and you risk splitting up an already thin fan base.  Conversely, you may grab a not unsubstantial chunk of O$U fans and get them to go down to a game or two.

Not likely to happen, but good conversation nonetheless.

1 - I agree on Gordon Gee.  I have met him several times and not impressed.
2 - I actually did not think about that, but I do think you would pick up a chunk of new fans.  A lot of people especially in northern Ohio love Tressel -- even before he was at Ohio State he was very popular in Ytown etc.  And he is very popular with the HS coaches.
