Re: Butch to Purdue
If true disapointing. Normally that would be a step backwards for him.... But with all this realignment crap I can't really get too upset at him... Agin assuming its true.

Clearly Kelly was a one-of-a-kind, pixie-dust-falling-from-the-sky-unto-clifton kind of coach.
And I like Butch.
But Butch isn't irreplacable.
If I was Babcock I would be on the phone to the Kent State and/or Northern Illinois coaches ASAP, although I'm sure both will be inundated with offers from other schools in the power conferences.......
UC is becoming the football equivalent of Xavier. Xavier has survived as a nationally top performing basketball school even though they are clearly a "stepping stone" because they ALWAYS make the right call as far as coaches go. Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller, etc.
This is not an ideal way to exist, because one bad coaching hire can set you back a long way. But it is do-able.

There are other coaching vacancies out there currently that are much more attractive (and some that will soon be available). Why would those coaches leave their schools to come to a school that has the same shot a Contract Game as they do in the MAC? With the BE TV contract shrinking by the day and with our other issues, how much money are we going to be able to pay?

Re: Butch to Purdue
Foolishness. The Big East will still be the number 6 conference. The Big East Champ will be the highest ranked non Power 5 Conference team 8 out of 10 years. The Big East TV contract will be worth millions more per team than the TV contracts of the other 4 non Power 5 conferences. CliftonAve wrote:

Just not nearly as much as hoped. The BE will still be way above the others IE MAC, cusa, sun belt.

DaveBerk wrote: If Butch would leave I'll throw out this name, Pat Narduzzi If Butch were to leave for Purdue, I'll throw out this name: Idiot. Butch would be an idiot because he wouldn't win. He'll get fired and then be all washed up. Meanwhile...... Florida State and Clemson are going to the Big 12 once the conference can get TV to pony up the cash. They'll get the cash. If anybody doubts that, then they're idiots too. When that happens, Cincinnati will back in to the ACC and once again have one of the easiest paths to a New Year's Day bowl game. This time, we'll have more money to work with. Cincinnati is a gem of a job and I wouldn't hand the keys to Pat Narduzzi. But then Butch was all set to move from CMU to Marshall, so he's tough to understand sometimes.

It would be strange for Butch to bail before all the conference realignment stuff is finished, which the majority of people dont think it is...

RE: Butch to Purdue
If he is looking out for himself, with UC's uncertain future and no timetable for when if any conference change might happen, I could see him making a move now. Strike while the iron is hot. Who knows what jobs are open in a year and who knows how well his team does next year? If you are him, do you role the dice and wait or take the first decent lifeboat out?
Purdue would be a nice payday.
I don't think Purdue would all of the sudden win the Big 10 but if he makes them competitive they'd be happy with that.
Nobody thought Dantonio would do much at Mich St but he's done pretty well.

I'm just taking a wait and see attitude. He'll get asked about this after practice... The guy has always seemed to be a straight shooter so we should be able to get a read out of him.

RE: Butch to Purdue
Yeah, Butch would be best suited to win with his recruits next year. He would have a pretty impressive 4 year resume especially if this weekend works out right and we get a share of the conference this weekend. That would be 4 out of 5 and 2 out of 3 on his watch. He could really get a Top Tier job and I'm not talking about PURDUE!
Purdue played to a crowd of 40,200 hosting Penn St. We played to over 35,000 hosting Miami of OH. Hardly a step up. You're in the B1G by affiliation only. He would never compete with the Meyers, Pelinnis, Hokes, Dantonios, and Beilema's of the world. Well, at least not at Purdue he wouldn't.

Listen, let's all take the high road and if Jones leaves, wish him well and lets move on. In this day and age of college football why would anything surprise people. uC will survive all this and we will achieve great things in football moving forward. It won't be long til we are ranked and playing a ranked Boise team in the NBE conf championship game at Nippert for a place in the new playoff system. Who knows maybe someone like Petrino or Terry Bowden at Akron will be our new coach. Cincy football has come a long way in a short time with a small budget. Look back at the eighties and early nineties, this program was god awful. I know , I played back then. In my four years we won nine games and lost to penn state 81-0. Those days are long gone and will never be again. RELAX, the sky is not falling. Go cats. Beat unconn.
