Butch to ???? (1 vote)
I was going to comment on the poor play call on 4th and inches until I saw that Football Rumor Mill has not one but two reports that UK is targeting Jones to take over for Joker Phillips. Reckon we'll be hearing a lot of these reports over the next couple months.

Re: Butch to UK? (1 vote)
"For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of triumph, a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeteers, musicians and strange animals from conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conquerors rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children robed in white stood with him in the chariot or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting."
- Gen. George C. Patton
I like Butch. I believe he has high values and absolute integrity. An excellent ambassador for the University. I wish him the absolute best. If it's at UC, GREAT! If not, good luck.
College sports makes sausage manufacturers look appealing, if you know what I mean.

Going to UK is a mountain not worth climbing. If he wants to leave he should wait, frankly he turned down three better jobs last year. I don't want him to leave, but especially for a foolhardy move.

RE: Butch to UK? (1 vote)
"If" Butch leaves, it will be for a program from a "power 5" conference viewed as more prestigous than UC. If he makes that move, it will be his last move up the coaching food chain. If/when he gets fired, his next gig will be in the MAC. What I'm saying is, he's a young man. He can't afford to get fired inside 5 years. That's why he won't take the Kentucky job. Frankly, the Tennessee and Arkansas jobs would scare me too. Being the head man at a second tier SEC school would give me ulcers.

It sounds like the rumor started from a former staff member over at 247 posted something. We are fixing to roll into the silly season where all kinds of crazy stuff will get reported.
Go Bearcats!

I wouldn't worry about Butch leaving for UK. UK is god awful. If he leaves for UK he's not the coach you thought he was.

Re: Butch to UK? (1 vote)
Pres Ono and Butch Jones are great friends, Butch turned down Illinois last year, Illinois is a better job than UK, Butch will not take the UK job.

It is not in UC's best interest to join the Big 12. UC has been and will be 100% committed to the Big East for the foreseeable future.
that is ironic advice considering it came out of your mouth.

Butch did not turn down Illinois, never offered to him from a very good source.

Re: Butch to UK?
You need to find a better source, MT called him and he told MT he was not interested. Now if you are talking semantics there was never a formal offer put in front of Butch because he told MT when he called he was not interested in the job, therefore, a formal offer was a moot point. Re: Butch to UK?
Everything at this point is hear say. People have CBJ on lists all over the country, from UK to Tennessee to Cal. Until Jones addresses it, I wouldn't worry. CBJ is a talented coach, so he will always pop up on potential lists when new jobs open up.

Re: Butch to UK?
Seriously doubt Cal is a possibility. Cal is a good job, but CBJ is not a good fit IMO with their fan base and his recruiting ties are not out here.

RE: Butch to UK? (1 vote)
One of the biggest failures by UK is the lack of recruiting Ohio, especially SW Ohio.

DaveBerk wrote: Butch did not turn down Illinois, never offered to him from a very good source. Dave, I don't doubt that for a minute. MT is no dummy. The way he chased Butch all around Cincinnati, showing up in his driveway, only to be rebuffed, I sure as hell wouldn't have offered him the job either
