Hearing the same thing... however it sounds like Maryland may not be able to afford the exit fee of $50 million to the ACC. They and FSU were the only 2 schools in ACC who did not agree to the bump of the buyout.
Sounds as though Big 10 will turn their attention to UConn if Maryland can't swing the buyout.

Wonderful! If this happens and perhaps Louisville and UConn leave UC will become the dominant Big East football program, thus making annual appearances in one of the 6 BCS bowl games starting with the 2014 season. The highest ranked team in the gang of 5 gets a guaranteed spot.

The Big 10 will go after Pitt before they will UConn.

Pitt would not be a fit from a TV market standpoint that UConn would be to the Big 10.
I honestly think before this is all said and done (finally) that you are going to see the "Big 5" as they are calling themselves now each get to at least 14 (maybe 16) teams and shut out the other conferences from ever having a 'real' shot at playing in the 4 team playoff.
Just my opinion on the matter.

UC's option is to dominate the Big East, be the highest ranked gang of 5 team, and go to one of the 6 BCS bowl games.

RE: Rutgers and Maryland to the Big 10?
I know it's nt going to happen, but I would love for uc to get an invite the the big x. Our football program could win over at least the the bottom half of the league now and given some time at least make Michigan St type runs were you compete with the top teams some years. I would love to watch our bb program play there our styles match up very well. The big x could go with 16 -20 schools but from 10 states and still keep the name. I would even agree not to recruit players against osu outside of a 10 mile radius from cincy to get the invite.

RE: Rutgers and Maryland to the Big 10?
It will never come. The Big 12 (Texas) really likes splitting the money 10 ways, not 12. The Big 12 will get $80 million each year from the Champions Bowl, $8 million each, why would the current schools want to add 2 more to make it $6.67 million each? The 10 schools will be splitting $200 million each year from the TV contract, why would they want to split $200 million 12 ways?

Re: Rutgers and Maryland to the Big 10?
As each Big 10 school gets $25 million a year in shared TV revenue, in theory, it would take Maryland about 6 years to make up the difference as each ACC school is getting about $17 million in shared revenue. The question is will adding Maryland and Rutgers result in an annual increase in TV revenue of more than $50 million so the current 12 do not take a cut? The $80 million yearly from the Rose Bowl is set for 8 years. Do the current 12 want to now split the $80 million 14 ways instead of 12? --------------------------------------------- --- brell wrote: WVU did not have a Sell-out tonight...fought well...$50 Million is Steep for Maryland..Boomer knows that....Rutgers..New York market 50,000 Stadium...Cincy and U of L....need to work together to find a New home with Boise St...probably won't happen.... ---------------------------------------------

my fear is in the end we are the odd man out. rutgers to the big 10, Uconn to the ACC, and Louisville to the big 12. Where do we end up.? THe big east would be DOA if that happened,. It would be us and USF looking for a home. I hate this, hate this hate this!!!

...and Boise et al. Please PAC 12 make another run at UT...we need some serious shake-ups to land somewhere solid...perfect timing to kill tv negotiations.

Re: Rutgers and Maryland to the Big 10?
Things are dynamic, but everyone I talked too says the Pac12 has no interest in UT.
Of course this could all change on a dime.

Re: Rutgers and Maryland to the Big 10?
Why would Texas want to go to the PAC 12 to make lees money than they are currently making in the Big 12? --------------------------------------------- --- Teakwood wrote:

Re: Rutgers and Maryland to the Big 10?
Texas wanted to go to the Pac12. The Pac12 said no. Two primary reasons: 1) LHN and 2) a significant majority of schools did not want to expand farther beyond the West Coast...travel issues, recruiting base, etc...
Some schools also said, more or less, 'enough is enough.' Stanford, Cal and others thought it pushed them all still farther into the pro sports-like arena college sports has become.

The LHN isn't doing all that hot (as if anyone thought it would LOL!). Perhaps UT is willing to punt on that. Adding the four of those would make the divisions rather clear: East Texas schools Oklahoma schools Colorado Utah Arizona schools West Coastal schools I think the PAC-12 would take Texas, and maybe Oklahoma, but the other two??
