Thought about Temple (and other incoming teams)

Thought about Temple (and other incoming teams)

I know we have to be excited about the N Big East and expansion and everything (mostly because that is the ship we are in). However, am I the only fan who is finding it rather difficult to get excited about this upcoming game against Temple?

My excitement towards playing Temple is borderline anemic...and then to start thinking about playing regular match-ups with Memphis? I think I just got sick.

This isn't true about all of our new conference mates and I know it takes time to develop some of these rivals (especially if they get into the thick of the conference chase, things really get exciting). But right now - I am just not feeling it.

With that being said, the Bearcats need to go out and beat the Owls to no end like Rutgers did. One team at a time and keep marching forward!

Go Bearcats! Beat the Owls!

what are you talking about??? eek1 We blew out Temple (35-10) and laid an egg at home vs 8-1 Kent St (23-35) the following week after losing the TO margin to them at -5...

Blitz- I think the OP did say you guys blew them out.   His words are "The Bearcats need to go out and beat the Owls to no end like Rutgers did".  That means to me that Rutgers blew the Owls out, so let's do the same.

Seminole-  I agree with your OP about not being too excited about Temple.  Certainly is not as exciting as playing Pitt, WVU or even Syracuse (spare me about how bad Pitt and Syracuse has been and how good Temple has been of late).

Teams that I am excited about playing in the New Big East in no particular order:

Boise, Louisville, USF, Rutgers, UCF, Navy, SDSU

Teams that I am neutral about:

Memphis, Houston, UConn

Teams that I could give a rats ass about:

Temple, SMU

Only reason Memphis is neutral is because there is the potential for them to turn their program around and be competitive with us and Louisville.  Our 3 programs come from similar backgrounds and could form a nice 3 way rivalry.  Also, Memphis is a fun town.

Temple is our next road conference game.  We haven't won a road conference game yet!  We better not be looking forward to Rutgers my friends, or we will get beat!   We need 7 wins to go to a bowl and were not there yet!  Like coach said" Our margin for error is very small."  Let's get that 7th win first on Saturday.  There's still alot of football to be played yet and the Bearcats still have a good chance to win the Big East and go to a BCS bowl game.  But they better take care of Temple first and stay focused on the process at hand!  GO BEARCATS!!

Completely agree UCCats - we need to focus on the game, stop Temple's running game and keep our turnovers to a minimum. Ball control has been my concern the past couple of weeks.

And technically, we have won a road game - although the VTech game was a "home" game played in DC.

Temple will come out strong - but I think we will need to make sure we don't overlook them as well.

I guess I will work on getting excited about our incoming conference mates - it just will take me some time. (Although, playing memphis and temple in BBall is exciting)

Do you think Florida State fans get excited when they play Boston College?

Do 'Bama fans get fired up to blow the doors off Kentucky?

As a fan, am I excited about playing Temple, no, not really.  However, I am fired up about my team getting a chance to add another win....on the road.  And I bet you both the FSU fans and 'Bama fans still show up to root on their team or are glued to the TV to watch them.

Obviously I get more fired up for certain teams... but our margin of error is so small I don't care who we play we have an element of danger.
Temple fights hard and though not blessed with tons of talent gives everything they have.

As far as the New Big East.... half of next year's lineup is receiving votes in the Coaches Poll.
That is pretty strong.

Our margin of error is very slim...

And now that I think about it - for my other team, Florida State - there are so many teams they play in the ACC who just do absolutely nothing for me. Wake Forest, Boston College, Duke, Virginia,...in reality the only teams outside of UNC and Clemson, that are remotely exciting are former Big East Teams: Virginia Tech, Miami...Pitt and Syracuse will not get people excited down there either. They seem like fish out of water (along with Boston College).

I hope the funding increase and exposure and future TV contract helps elevate the NBE to where it should be and helps some of these teams that have huge growth potential in many different sports.

So many things hinge on that TV contract! This playoff system seems more and more messed up every week going forward.

I'm excited about seeing Cincinnati play every week. I don't really give a damn who it is against. Since they play football a grand total of 12 times per year, I pretty much appreciate every opportunity to see them.

I live 800 miles away, and can make only one game per year. I pretty much feel deprived. From where I sit, it's amazing what people will come up with to stay away - "I don't like the QB", "the opponent stinks", "our bowl is gonna suck anyway"...

Makes me damn sick.

I'm with you (although I live about 120 miles away which is close enough to get me to all the home games).   Unfortunately there are a lot of people who still live within a 30 mile  (heck, a 10 mile) radius of campus who do not "get it".

You have a good hardnosed coach, hope you fall short Saturday but keep grind.
