Syracuse has been horrible stopping punt returners so that should be a huge advantage and opportunity for UC.
I see UC (as usual) has an exceptional run defense but a suspect pass defense. I would hope that our OC is smart enough to come out passing early in an effort to force UC to adjust and hopefully open it up for our running backs.
My thoughts,
Defensive Line- We aren't very big up front but despite that we seem to defend the run well, we are smallish but very active.... play very hard.
On the flip side we haven't been able to generate a lot of pass rush since Stewart has been out.... a real concern.
Linebackers- Blair is a beast... Lord knows where we would be without him.
Bomar very active player.... the rest of the guys are pretty good but those two are the standouts in the group.
Defensive backs- I think Drane is the best one (hope his hand is back to full health)
Our other corners are pretty solid.
BUT
I am concerned we are playing way too much press coverage considering our lack of pass rush AND lack of adequate
Safety play .
Seems as if this spot is turning into a disaster area again....
I don't know if Drew Frey is injured or what is up.... but he looks like he is running about a 5.2/40 back there.
If I was
anyone I'd just drop back and throw long... UL killed us with a few of those.
Bridgewater just threw it as far as he could and let his WR's did the work.
They could do that because our corners can't count on having safety help deep.
Made Teddy look like a All-American QB... again any trolling UL fans I think Teddy is a good QB... but we didn't make it difficult on him.
Special Teams-
Kick Returns- when he gets a chance Ralph David Abernathy IV is as good as it gets.
Punt Returns- we aren't bad here... but not special either.
Kickoff- When O'Donnell kicks most go in the end zone.
We have given up one TD... but I think that was more a fluke than a symptom of a bigger problem.
Punt- O'Donnell ought to be considered for the Ray Guy award.
Field Goal Team- Milliano is a slightly above average kicker. Kicks the ball too low... average leg. Effective range around 45. Though he has hit a few longer.... but I wouldn't bank on it regularly.
Not ripping him, just admitting he isn't an all world kicker.

Thanks!
Yeah I think if you polled Syracuse fans, Abernathy would win in a landslide of guys on UC we are most concerned about. Isaiah Pead ripped Syracuse so bad last year I thought the Giants should have drafted him 1st round. Fortunately our kickoff specialist has regularly been able to kick touchbacks. Hopefully that continues.
The Syracuse OL has been up and down. Since they got AA candidate Pugh back at LT, the line has played much better. We still have a 270 lb center so that should be an interesting matchup against the UC interior.
The biggest question mark by far for Syracuse is its own rush defense. They only gave up an average of 35 yards per game to running backs in the Big East prior to USF last weekend. That was against Ray Graham, Lyle McCombs and Jamison of Rutgers. Then they go out and give up 300 yards to USF on the ground last week! So we don't know if that's an aberration or a product of playing a spread type of offense. Which obviously favors UC on Saturday if that is the case.
Good luck this weekend.
