CMU getting spanked by UB

CMU getting spanked by UB

The team's lack of size is proving to be their down fall again. UB is getting an offensive rebound on almost all of their misses. No inside game again . CMU players keep trying to take the ball to the hoop. Why not pull up and shoot 7-10 ft shots?Simons doesn't even look like he wants the ball on offense. Big disappointment offensively.

They've had several chances to cut the lead to 6--each time Simons had a wide open 3 and didnt come close.  His inability to hit ANY shot is the main difference between the current CMU team and the team that started the season.  Hopefully they will keep working and develop going into next year when they can add some size.

Watched some of it.  When you give up 91 offense is not the issue.  Size inside, as you stated.  Can't defend the paint.  It was a layup drill for UB.

This team appears to have hit the wall. They're playing like I expected them to before the season. First 2 months were a tease. banghead

I don't know if I would call it a tease; however, the gas tank sure does appear to be running on "E", especially for the freshmen. The question is will these numerous freshmen find a way to fight through this adversity and get a second wind down the stretch. Sometimes this will happen for a team, sometimes not. Coaching has a lot to do with it and only time will tell.

Re: CMU getting spanked by UB

We played hard as usual. Had no trouble getting good looks- just weren't making them. Our size and inability to guard inside the paint is becoming more evident. We put a lot of attention on buffalo's inside game and they punished us with good outside shooting which thus opened up their inside game. Tough to win when you are undersized, can't make your shots, and the opponent makes their open shots and is productive from the ft line. This team will be alright and I have enjoyed their effort and style so far. I'm very proud of this team.

Re: CMU getting spanked by UB

I think you pretty much summed it up with your hit the wall comment.  There isn't much I can say that has not already been said over the past three weeks.  We are in a downward spiral and I don't see it ending anytime soon.  It's going to be a tough finish to the season.  I don't see many wins from here on out.

I usually try not to comment on individual players, especially if my thoughts are negative.  When I have done it in the past I have regretted it.  But I'm going to step out and say a few things about the six true freshmen that have seen a lot of playing time along with our one soph.  This is the way I see it.

Hibbitts has been a pleasure to watch.  As the other players lose their ability to score, Hibbitts' game just seems to get stronger and stronger.  He can also reboundand defend. Of all the new, young players that we brought into the program this season he has emerged as quite possibly the best of the bunch. That baby face is deceiving. He can play a smooth yet tough game.

I just can not understand what is going on with Simons.  He came in with all sorts of press clippings and awards - Parade All American, in the running for Mr. Basketball, all state first team, etc.  But he has just not been able to settle in.  A10 mentioned Simons might be playing out of position and when we get a true big man we could begin to see him show signs of playing as we all expected.  I don't know if that's true or not but I sure hope he is right.

Fowler, Richardson, Stewart, Krannitz all sort of fall into the same catagory in my book.  They are all a work in progress.  Fowler is getting most of the attention at the moment but he can be a foul and turnover machine at times.  I think all of them will develop into quality players in the future but they are playing like true freshmen right now.

And now for Keel.  What can I say about Keel?  First of all I have to say he is currently little more than a warm body or a shadow out there.  And I just don't get it.  I do believe he has talent.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure if he thinks he has talent enough to compete in this league.  He was recruited by someone on the CMU basketball staff because they felt he had talent and potential.  He was not recruited to be a warm body.  I just want to see him start to show the talent others saw in him when they asked him to wear the maroon and gold.  But until that happens I think Keno has to start limiting his time on the floor.

Anyway, let's all turn out for the Miami game this Saturday.  Unfortunately I see it as another loss.  Keno and his staff have a big problem on their hands at the moment and I'm not sure there are any good answers waiting in the wings.  Right now it seems to me the big goal is just to hold these guys together, not let them get down, and find a way to keep them working hard.  Six of them are going to be here for three more years.  This is not the end, it's just the beginning.

Definitely a winnable game for CMU.

Might have one winnable game left in NIU on the road.

Another ugly home loss to a very poor team, one that is probably as young as we are or maybe more so, so that excuse is getting old.

Miami is improving.  They're a player or two away from being their old self.

well that may be true, but I ain't seeing much growth from our squad. to me it looks like one or maybe two of our players are showing overall improvement the rest are either staying flat or actually regressing, and these are young guys so claiming fatique is pretty darn lame, 20 or so games spread out over 14 weeks should not be too much for anyone that age to handle.

I don't claim to know much basketball, but to me it looks like the guys are not sure of what their role is, with the exception of Randall and Saylor (who looks like he is getting back in rhythm).  Appears to be some hesitatation on the part of the rest of the team.

You took 51 shots and 32 of them were threes.  Lots of things come into play at this point.

Teams switch on every ball screen so the looks from beyond the arch arent all that good.

Randall's being denied easy kick outs.

A lot of young guys, and not a ton of depth is resulting in weary legs as the season goes on.  Harder to jack up threes when you don't have legs under you.

See, this was a good post.

You actually wrote a post that discussed the game instead of just saying that CMU runs a gimmick offense and they suck.

Good job!

Statman, I almost always give logical reasons (and even STATS) to back my argument.  I only get down and dirty when folks sling the dirt first.

Except you're on our board, so you need to be more respectful.

You wouldn't go to someone else's house and insult the hell out of them, would you? I'd hope not.

Well if I walked in the door and they greeted me as Dip$hit and told me I need to leave.......................Yeh, I'd probably tell them their house looks like a hoarders nest, and their children need to be tested.
