Michigan

Michigan

Now that we have finally put the football season behind us we can focus on basketball.  Anyone going to the Michigan game?  I was thinking about it but I finally decided against it.  We have to be a big underdog and I'm not going to drive all the way to Ann Arbor to watch us take a beating.  I can do that while watching the game on the BIG network.  I'm just hoping we do not lose by more than 15 and I think that will be a challenge.  Don't get me wrong.  I like what Davis and his staff have done with this group of players and I like our win-loss record so far.  It's just that we are in over our heads in this one.

RE: Michigan

I had thought about it but I ultimately think I will pass as well and watch it on television instead. While I am also excited with what the team has accomplished this year, this is the #2 team in the country we're dealing with and I think it will probably be over by halftime. But who knows; this team has been full of surprises this season. I hope we will continue to play hard and grow as a team, and use this experience to get us ready for MAC play.

I might be heading to the game, not sure yet. I'll be rooting for us to just keep it closer than WMU or EMU did with Michigan. If we can make it rain from beyond the arc I think we can do that!

Re: Michigan

As of this morning we were 28.5 point dogs. I may be drinking the kool-aide a bit much, but I like the odds of staying below that. Yes I know this is the #2 team in the country who is pretty much having their way with everyone. However, if we can beat a mediocre UM team with not coach (Z) I like the odds of a good coach (keno) putting a real game plan together....We will see though.

Re: Michigan

we look really hesitant/ unsure of ourselves so far on defense. I like the aggressiveness on offense though. I'm really excited to see us do battle in the MAC this year.

Very pleased watching this team fight, and claw, and not quit on the road in Ann Arbor. Solid effort tonight. Can't help but look forward to conference play and hopefully Saylor's return in the paint!!!

RE: Michigan

Final score: Michigan 88, CMU 73

The outcome was about what I expected (probably helped that Tim Hardaway Jr. was not playing for Michigan tonight) but I continue to be pleased with the way Keno has the young guns playing. I mean, we still dropped 73 on the #2 team in the nation, which is the most they have given up all year, and did outscore them in the second half. By comparison, EMU lost by 40 and WMU by 32.  I am ready to see what the Chips can do in MAC play.

Any word on when Saylor is expected to return?  This team is exciting to watch.   Greg Kelsor has had a few nice things to say about the Chips.

Re: Michigan

You have to be proud of that effort.  These guys are fighters.  OV got some work done inside, Fowler showed he's a pg to fear, DJ was exceptional, and our "Masters" student transfer was his usual gritty, determined self.  UM is so loaded it's unbelievable.  Now I know why so many transferred out last year.  They saw the writing on the backboard.

Chips future is bright.  Keno is working and developing the program.  Excited about the future of his team.

Re: Michigan

I'm not disappointed.  There was no way we were going to win that one so we just played/practiced our stuff on offense and defense and didn't let the score get in the way of what we were doing.  They have at least three guys on that team that could drop out of school and play in the NBA right now.  The rest of them are not far behind.  I can't remember watching a team shoot like that.  At one point in the first half I began to wonder if they ever miss.  But for me the highlight of the evening was the fact that we had Central Michigan on the front of our jerseys and not Central.  Way to go basketball program - you got it right.

VERY proud of this team. Out rebounded, more blocks, less fouls, hard fought against a REALLY good Michigan team.

Re: Michigan

Crisler Center really looks great after  being redone! Tons of food, waterfalls......  Disappointment was no band, dance team, etc ....Even CMU students in their student section which was fun to see.  CMU just shot badly in the first 20 minutes, and it was too bad because it would have been VERY interesting had they not.  Michigan could have gone down low most of the night but chose to shoot it out instead.  Michigan had 2 ares they will have to improve on if they are to make a tourney run.  After Burke CMU had WAY more quickness.  The UM fans were shocked how CMU turned a UM dunk into a 3 pass layup on the other end.  Depth is lacking for UM  mainly at the guard spot. They are a good team but definitely have weaknesses.  CMU was unlucky as several loose balls just found their way to UM players for easy buckets.  Overall it was a good performance, just doomed by a bad start.  I loved seeing Trey Burke being forced to play until late.  CMU outscored them in the 2nd half, and battled to the end.  Great coaching adjustments at the half by Keno as seems to be the rule.  Despite the loss, I had plenty of nice comments from UM fans and all Chip fans have a team (and coaching staff) to be proud of!

qulaity tv commentary as well, Greg K was very complementary of CMU. He knew we were overmatched but time and time again gave praise where it was due and thought he did a great job.

Great effort tonite Mens hoops did us all proud!

This team has already exceeded all of my expectations. How about a nod to Dave Heeke for a great choice?

Re: Michigan

I'm looking forward to when CMU gets a defensive presense under the basket. Then it will be a tough team to handle. CMU's "big men" do want they can right now , but opponents have had an easy time in the driving lanes all season. It would have been fun to see what Keno would have done with Chris Kaman .

I agree Greg K. was much more complimentary/knowledgeable than 99% of the "away from home" commentators (TV, Radio, & Newspapers) we normally get (even by some of our own alums)!
