Scout team POY
Not sure if this is posted elsewhere.
Offense no surprise Cooper Rush. Sounds like he could be a player.
Defense Ryan Oruche Redshirt Freshman DB. Doesnt look like he has had much action but must bring something in practice.

Re: Scout team POY
Can't wait to see what Rush can do.
Maybe not at first, but by the end of next season I'm predicting we'll be much better at the QB position than we are now. There are sure to be bumps in the first few games, but don't we have to endure those now anyway? The kid is supposed to be the real deal. He could be really exciting after a few games are under his belt.

Re: Scout team POY
I think part of the reason Enos didn't try to get the back up QBs any playing time this year is that he's looking at Rush being the guy in 2013. The competition should push all the QBs to be their best and CMU should have some good play from whoever wins out.

RE: Scout team POY
I share those thoughts OTC. And I agree that the three of them Kater, Niznak and Rush will be battling for the job next year.

RR could have gone down with an injury at anytime. He could have come down with the flu at anytime. You don't ignore playing time for backups because you want everyone to be at the same starting point NEXT year. I doubt that was even a thought.

RE: Scout team POY
a10, I do not pretend to know what Enos was thinking by not giving one or two of our back up QBs some playing time, I was disappointed in that. What I do agree with is the statement that the three of them (plus according to CW also Wesendorp) will all be in the mix and the best one will be our new QB. I would imagine that if no one steps up enough to win it outright we might see a bit from a couple.

I think it will easily be the battle to watch in the spring and early fall. I, however, think Rush will win the job.

Re: Scout team POY
AND, FWIW the incoming frosh QB: Darrien Boone-6'4" & 190 lbs is supposed to be here in January 1013. He says he "expects to compete for the starting QB position for fall 2013!"

Re: Scout team POY
May the best QB win out and play. Having 4-5 capable QBs is a great problem to have. The LeFevour / Brian Brunner days were awesome. Excellent QB play will win allot of games in the MAC.
Rush, Niznak, Kater, Westendorp, Boone is a nice group. I'd be shocked if Boone isn't redshirted.
Of course the biggest need for improvement is on the defensive side of the ball.

RE: Scout team POY
83, it might just be (just a guess) Niznak and Kater are more suited for a spread type offense and have some more things to work on to fit into this offense. Cooper is more of a pocket QB with the ability to escape when the pocket breaks down. I think without a QB with any playing time behind him means the job will be wide open and there for the taking.

RE: Scout team POY
No matter who gets the nod next year, it will be a tough first game at Michigan with no meaningful playing time. We just need to get home without a QB getting hurt. The game experience will be meaningful after that game.

It couldn't be any worse then what we saw this year at home vs. Sparty.

Re: Scout team POY
a10...actually it could be. The QB spot, as you know, is the most important position on the field. Our QB, whoever he is, will be making his first start in a packed Michigan stadium (110K) and the game will probably be covered by ESPN or ABC (same diff). My guess is, after the game, the QB is either gonna be filled with confidence because he did well or be asking for a new position because it didn't go so well. Talk about being thrown to the wolves. That could be a rough one.

What about last years Scout team POY defense??Re: Scout team POY
If my memory is correct, Ben Randle 6'5' 281 lb RS Freshman was the defensive scout team POY last season...did he even see the field this year?? Was he injured?
He came in as a TE but was switched to defense. That'd be a big DE to hold the edge on stopping the run game (that we haven't been able to do for about 3 years now.

Re: What about last years Scout team POY defense??Re: Scout team
in the freep chat, i know cody mentioned a.j., but other than him (his good friend and roomate), cody only spoke of cooper rush out of the consensus top 3 QB's for 2013.
does that hold significance or did he just choose a name due to limited time in an online chat?
