Think we have attendence issues?
I'm watching the live stream from the MAC network and it looks like a middle school football game there right now as far as attendence goes. I would actually bet a middle school fb game would have more people there. Considering the policy of basing attendence on tickets sold, can you imagine how much $ the EMU athletic department is losing by buying up tickets and essentially giving them away to people? I have no clue how their football program is sustainable with the attendence issues.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
Box score says 4,081 - perhaps Eastern's best turnout for the season. Stadium is bush-league. Whole deal over there is bush-league.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
I don't see EMUs stadium as "bush league", certainly I don't agree that the, "whole deal over there is bush-league". Eastern plays in the shadow of the largest house in the U.S.A. for college f.ball. That impacts upon their turn-out, for sure. We've have to pad our stats to get to 15,000 so we might be careful throwing stones at other folks. As for the, "whole deal", well their Convo center is quite impressive, much more so than Mc Quirk. Been to both places and Mc Quirk pales by comparison. Was at Rynearson today and the CMU turnout left a lot to be desired. CMU has over 100,000 alums in S.E.Michigan. We may have had 2,000 folk there. Where were our alums who live so close to Rynearson? You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I am certainly entitled to mine. SHALOM

RE: Think we have attendence issues?
Does the band count? If so, that got them over 4,000

Yes, bands have counted for several years.

RE: Think we have attendence issues?
This game was at the same time as the UM-NU game in Ann Arbor. I always thought they didn't do them at the same time for traffic and logistics. Apparently since nobody is attending, they don't worry about it any more.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
Must respectfully disagree - to note, is that an 8 or 10 lane track surrounding the football surface? Last time I saw that was at a high school game, not D1 FBS football.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
Couple thoughts, I don't think much of their Convo center. It looks like a big black hole, and it is always empty. Their concessions' are far worse than ours. They have a huge scoreboard that is pretty much useless as it very limited in its video delivery. The football stadium is decent but again the will never be close to being filled. The old World football league built it up to what it is today and yes the track to me cheapens the entire setting. The acoustics absolutely suck, it echos constantly because of the shape and the emptiness. Central had a very good turn out for a road game. I am pretty sure that when it comes to road games CMU is one of the best traveled teams in the conference even in a down year.

I've been to the last 3 or 4 games in Y-Town. I'll admit they have spruced the place up a lot. Their band has also improved.

I am pretty sure that when it comes to road games CMU is one of the best traveled teams in the conference even in a down year. The point I responded to had nothing to do with attendance, but rather that EMU's facilities are bush league. To you the "Convo" looks like a "big black hole"; not to me. Been there for b.ball, open-houses, wrestling championships and the place is nice. In both the Convo and Rynearson you're conflating lack of crowd size to "bush league"; I disagree. I attended the last game in the old Rynearson. The facility was upgraded, but not for the WFL instead it was upgraded for EMU. Saturday,I sat on the CMU side and we had less than 2,000 people. I repeat, for most of the over 100,000 alums in S.E. Michigan, Rynearson is closer than K/S.To me that's poor turn-out, "even in a down year.". I'll agree to disagree. SHALOM

Their football, basketball and baseball facilities are excellent. They don't have to take a back seat to anyone in the MAC when it comes to facilities. The only negative thing I would have to say about the football stadium is the track they have around it. That's old school and I have never liked it. It reminds me of the old Alumni Field we had at CMU before Kelly/Shorts. That one had a track around it as well but that was back in the dark ages. I forgot to read all the comments in the thread before posting. I now see others have commented on the track as well.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
I always hate trashing other small schools simply because we are one. I feel bad for EMU because they are by the biggest Walmart store in the nation, so most of their OWN STUDENTS cheer for UofM. I have close friends that attend/ed EMU and it's sad that their school spirit is so down.
But they must average like 4,000 per home game this year....abysmal.

RE: Think we have attendence issues?
I listened to the 1st half on the radio and couldn't tell if the cheers immediately after a play were a good or bad sign. It sounded like CMU had more/louder fans.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
i think their stadium is nice its just all of the other things that bring the whole experience down such as the track around the field, the awful sound system, and just the overall lack of fans.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
Easterns band was better than past years but no match fo ours. And yes, we had a very good turn out and pretty vocal as well.

I've gone to several CMU games at Rynearson and those crowds were much more than what was there Saturday. We may have had 2,000. When you have over 100,000 alums within "ear-shot" of Rynearson and you have maybe 2,000 CMU fans at the game; if that constitutes "a very good turn out", we'll just agree to disagree. SHALOM

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
OK, et, I just thought we had a pretty good turn out. I realize where you coming from with the amount of people that live less than an hour away we should have more. I will say this , we had at least 3-5 hundred at the soccer game later that night. Again, not great but it was soccer.

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
No problem, we're "kin-folk" and sometimes "kin-folk" respectfully disagree. I hope we have a solid turn out for Miami. I'm not elated over our record, but hey I'm the type of fan that tries to support, no matter. I'm torn though because as a MAC fan, the MAC game for me this week is Kent at BGSU!! That my friend could be quite special and as you can probably tell, I'm a S.E.Michigan resident!! I'm betwixt and between. SHALOM

Re: Think we have attendence issues?
et...I will be in Mt. Pleasant but daaaaannng, that does sound like a good one, Kent @ BGSU (I might have to record that one).
Tell me this... Are you as surprised as me at Kent St.? What the heck happened? Last year they were battling for the basement. The change in one year is remarkable. In one year they went from worst to first...simply amazing.
