MAC owns the Big East

Kent continues the MAC dominance over the Big Least this year, clearly the BE is NOT one of the elite conferences in the country.

Rutgers turned the ball over seven times.  Which got me wondering--what's the
D1 record?  Thanks in advance if anybody has that stat.

The little east is a complete fraud! Ut over Cinci and Kent over Rutgers! Yes, the pathetic little east does not deserve a BCS Bowl game! The coaches are getting paid a lot of $$$$$ and they spend a lot of $$$$ on FB and the teams are so very poor!

Seven isn't even the highest this year. Houston turned it over 9 times against SMU. Not sure what the record is though.

It wasn't long ago people were saying Kent State did not deserve to be in the MAC because of their poor performance in football.  Look at them now.

Yes, and they would still love to have the type of home crowd we had today. The Flashes simply can't draw for football, no matter what the product is like on the field.

Our conference is earning r-e-s-p-e-c-t the only place it can be earned; on the field. Hurray for the MAC. Some programs spend well over $100M on athletics...not the MAC.           SHALOM

Are you sure 'bout that? They also drew 16K for Homecoming; not great , but a work in progress. SHALOM

Re: MAC owns the Big East

There is an old saying in college sports that goes "College towns are football schools and Urban schools are basketball schools". Now that the Big East has lost it's BCS affiliation, I think we will see years where the MAC will actually dominate the Big East!

The MAC has a number of College towns in it and it's easier to rally your students around the football program to create an electric atmosphere. Commuter schools have a tougher time engaging their off campus students and the adjacent neighborhoods are generally not conducive to a good tailgating experience.

One season does not make for a trend my friend. The coach will move on to greener pastures and they will be a dreg drawing 5000 a game once again, which is what they always have been and always will be.

The MAC may own the Big East, but I sent my good friend Denis Lemieux to address another pressing ownership issue:

Well, my friend, I never said it does make for a trend. You said, "the Flashes simply can't draw for football, no matter what the product on the field is like" and that obviously is not true, my friend. I'm happy for Kent for they've given great f. ball pub for the MAC and done so for the first time in decades. As for prognostication, well I'll leave that to others, my friend.  SHALOM

blah2blah2blah2

I have also argued on this board in the past that KSU should not even exist, given the proximity to Akron and the duplication of programs with other schools in the state of Ohio. It's a real problem here in Ohio with the state university system. Having lived in Cleveland for well over a decade now, there is a reason that it is referred to as "Can't read, can't write, Kent State."

That may be the way some folks in Ohio see it but nationally it's another story.  Kent State is rated as a Tier 1 national research university.  The last time I looked they were the very last school to make the list but they are still there just the same.  CMU is Tier 2 along with Toledo and its medical school and law school.  Apparently there are some people out there who think Kent State is a pretty decent academic institution.

Re: MAC owns the Big East

The state of Ohio has over 200 colleges and universities.  200!  And the admittance standards at some of them are simply laughable.  Yes, I'm referring to Akron.  There are many more problems in academia than attendance at football games.  However, in the spirit of the  "We're Broke" century, it might be time to take a look at ways to save while still providing educational opportunities.  Akron/Kent are within minutes of each other and neither is an academic powerhouse.  I'm not sure that Cleveland State is any better.

At this point in the season the MAC has more bowl eligible teams than every conference not named the SEC.
