Terry Mo yesterday

Terry Mo yesterday

Was a great day if you could listen to 95.3 because Budro had Ron Carroll and Terry Mo, then Jeff and Terry Mo were on AStateNation. And Terry came back on The Drive.

Some of the things I picked up on throughout the day:

He's sick of the "Indian Eye". Proposed an "Office Space"-style demolition after it's brought down. It will come down this month, and the new board (5 square feet bigger than ULL) will start going up next month.

The Indoor Facility (SAC-Student Activity Center) is behind due to (1) ice/snow (2) rain/wind, but they're making up ground now that there is a little but of dry weather.

The pressbox is not the only thing getting expanded, as he called it the Centennial West Side Expansion. More club/suite seating as well as "premium" which I'm not sure what the difference is. Will also include concession and facility areas and will "change the face of the stadium". Though I'm not sure you'll see an expansion of seats in the bowl.

The football ops building is about $10 mil short right now. But that will help because the football offices will go to other coaches, helping some of the Title IX discrepancies we've had in the past.

The Soccer field was going to cost $1 mil to keep by the stadium, so they've started moving it to the Track complex, where they're building a Tennis/Soccer clubhouse (again alleviating Title IX issues).

The Mizzou game is more than likely going to St Louis. Although he is in research on what the effect will be to the community. However he's talking in ranges of over half a season's worth of ticket sales (which he may have let slip a number yesterday morning but I won't report anything I didn't fully hear).

His biggest issue right now is increasing our budget as an athletic program.

In his view, we don't really compete against Alabama or Texas in terms of grand scheme. We compete against Houston and Cincinnati and SMU. To our five conferences, there is one open shot to the (formerly BCS) contract bowls.

He's behind autonomy for FB schools, so that UALR isn't making policies for football (basically).

He and Chuck Welch are behind NMSU as full members of the Sun Belt. Worried the MWC will eventually grab them.

Some interesting points -- I noted that the JB Sun today has the Mizzou game article, is there anything new that we haven't discussed here?

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

Sounds like he is leaning towards St. Louis but Kansas City still in the running. Mayor Perrin said they might could use some a& p funds to help keep the game here. Wonder if they could get some corporate sponsors to also pitch in and keep the game here.

But I will go to St. Louis if they move the game there

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

I just want to clarify something here... this was based off research that I did yesterday between ASU's, Georgia Southern's and ULL's new video boards.

ULL's video board is 30' tall by 54' wide (1620 ft²)

ASU's video board is 32' tall by 50' wide (1600 ft²)

I'm waiting to get the tech specs of Georgia Southern's right now.

Both of the above are directly from the Daktronics website/press releases.

I'm sorry, but I'm gonna be pissed if it's moved. A. We've heard time and time again that the game is going to be playing JBR. B. It will be a huge regression IMHO to have only 5 home games in a season. C.if this game is moved, it will be hard to get excited when new home games are announced bc most likely we will "sell out" and the game will never take place in JBR.

So once the move of the Mizzou game is finalized and announced, will those of us who were heckled, insulted, integrity questioned, and chastized for saying this game would never happen in Jonesboro be receiving any apologies?  Will anyone be eating crow publicly?

I hate the fact that we'll be moving.  I realize that business is business.  However, this may cause someone to question the integrity of some in administration for making such bold announcements and proclamations.

Exactly! At some point, these contracts have to mean something! Don't pimp SEC home games and then turn around and a sell them to the highest bidder. Ridiculous

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

Simple equation. If Jonesboro doesn't care if the game is played here, why play it here?

St. Louis says the game is worth $1.5 million to them. Since AState fans doesn't fill hotels or restaurants, or shop, or buy gas, the game clearly has no value to Jonesboro. Gotta go with where the money is.

NEVER let "just good enough" be acceptable for A-State again!

If it's moved then I guess the admin buys into the idea that Jonesboro can't bring in the bigger schools and we are just little brother of the state.

If the game is moved to St. Louis, Terry owes the entire fan base an apology. This would be a huge regression for our program, but he obviously doesn't care because he's making money!

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

He did say that even if mizzou game stays in Jonesboro he's not worried about them buying it out seeing as they'd have to find another opponent in 15

he also basically said mtsu, nt, F_u and wku all jumped the gun to cusa based on old revenue numbers from the houston/ecu days and he pretty much ripped both old dominion and Charlotte for being nobody's lol.

I was impressed how honest he was about his stance on liberty

If it's all about the almighty dollar, we'll never play a P5 school in Jonesboro. We could always make more $$$ playing it elsewhere.

It's a whore's mentality, and the fans lose.

Bojo, I listened to his interview on The Drive and that's not at all how I took his comments re: the Mizzou game. He did say IF we move it it will be to Busch Stadium. But he also said that they have not reached a decision yet but that he really wanted to keep it in Jboro if at all possible. He also said that Mizzou AD Alden has said they would play the game wherever we wanted to play it, even at Centennial Bank Stadium. I think everyone needs to step back and take a deep breath and wait to see how it unfolds before jumping off the ledge.

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

I do not think selling the most attractive home football game to the highest bidder in another city or state is the way to build a fan base at CBS.  However, I do not have access to the facts and figures available to our Admin and I will defer to their judgment as they are finding ways to upgrade and improve CBS and our athletic facilities and that is far more important to me than one home football game, but I would prefer this game be played at CBS.

I didn't say definitively going, but the way he talked, it sounded like something drastic needed to be done by the city or that their research needed to turn up a huge negative impact to the program and city. His tone almost sounded resigned to the game being moved. Kept saying he "appreciates" the fans' opinions. Sounds like unless a Hail Mary connects (A & P won't move the amount of money needed to keep the game if the city's past history is any indication), we're singing "Meet me in St Louis".

If that's the case hats off to the Mizzou AD. He got 2 million dollars worth of home games for free.

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

One thing we need to remember is that one of the key reasons Mohajir was chosen was that he was a "money guy" who had success generating donations and revenue in other jobs. An area that we hadn't been very good with lately.

When other conferences looked at us this was apparently a red flag.

I want the game in Jonesboro pretty badly. But there are other things I'm even more interested in that take money.

If that's the case play all OOC games for 1 million and make 4 million dollars a year. After all this is a business right?

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

I would love the game being in Jonesboro, but lets face it, we as fans don't sell out every game, we leave early, we are near the bottom of the barrel donation wise, our budget is half that of 100+ other schools in FBS. We have caviar tastes on a top roman budget. If the number truly is 1.5 to 2 average seasons worth of revenue for the football program, how do you not seriously consider this move?

Re: Terry Mo yesterday

EXACTLY!!  Does the A&P committee have $1MM-$2MM to keep the game here?

Everyone wants new facilities and high profile teams playing in Jonesboro.  We have have to take the cash wherever we can get it.

For all of those complaining about moving the game, do you have a solution or a cashiers check that is going to replace the $1MM-$2MM ifthe game stays here?  Do you have the $10MM-$15MM to pay for all of the new facilities and upgrades?

I still believe this is all just talk that is meant to stir some people up. Moving the game would be a huge mistake in my opinion. I would rather they buy it out and us add a home game than play them in St. Louis or KC. The new seating will be ready in 2015. hard to believe you give up that marquee game.

Terry M. has 4 aces in his hand and he is trying to keep all the players on the table to get the pot as large as he can. Right now no one knows how he is going to play the hand. I have confidence he will make the right move. One thing for sure it's not about him, it's about the program and it's not a about popularity, it's about $$$. If he can get more $$$ his image will be fine. There is about 100 AD's that would love to have this problem.

It will hurt in the long run if they move the game. No doubt about it. Who cares what kinda facility's you have if you don't play your games there or against nobody's.

I agree with you there, if the press box is done, the north end zone, the new video board, the in door practice facility, wouldn't a game versus a SEC opponent be the perfect time to showcase all our growth?

The only way to make it would be leave the season ticket prices roughly the same keep that game included, and make that game a premium game costing $45 per ticket until game time, and $60 at the gate.

For years, that "top roman" budget bought us nothing but shitsandwiches.

It'd be nice to see that reversed for once..
