5 schools AAC or MWC should invite

http://g5conferencenews.blogspot.com/2014/06/5-sch ools-aac-or-mwc-should-invite-if.html

it'll never happen but still an interesting read from the G5 guy

ARKANSAS STATE: With only one other FBS school to contend with in Arkansas, the Red Wolves should be at the top of any ones expansion list. If the MWC were looking to go south, a one two punch of Ark State and UL could prove very beneficial for the MWC. Ark State like UL, lacks a big television market. This should matter less and less however,  in the new post P5 world. Conferences that concentrate on winning programs rather than markets, will be the winners in the new G5 conference arrangement.

Good logic. But we are talking about college football where logic is always last on the list.

What people fail to realize is that the entire state is our market.  I can't tell you how many times I have spoke to someone in Arkansas that is not a hardcore ASU fan but they tell me they watch us every time we are on TV.  We don't have any pro sports and we have one other program in the other corner of the state.  There is plenty of room in the market for ASU.  There is a reason we draw such high numbers for those weeknight games compared to everyone else.  If the other team isn't playing at the same time, Arkansans want to see what we are doing.  Our state tends to be sort of "clan-ish" with a chip on its shoulder.

IF ASU were to be another conference I think it would have to be from one that was created out of necessity (similar to what happened with the AAC) than from current conference set ups.

If the major conferences are truly done with expansion I could see the power schools of the smaller conferences banding together.

I am anxiously waiting for the  P5 to peel off. The bell curve is pretty consistent regardless the sample size.

I always heard that certain pockets of the NW part of the state are more this way than others. I did see a documentary lately and was surprised to see that Indiana was historically this way as well.

Re: 5 schools AAC or MWC should invite

Unfortunately, there isn't a conference out there is that is best suited for us.  We don't fit in the MWC with schools from Hawaii, Cali, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Colorado.  Are athletic program is big enough to fit in with the Big 12, the Belt has its own issues, and CUSA isnt much different.  The American would be my top choice, but that won't be happening.  Since before all this started, I thought a group of the "have not's" should stand together and build something they're proud of instead of begging for bread crumbs.  I prefer the "college town" type programs that aren't in huge cities and have a good following and support.  I wish a group of Belt and CUSA members would break apart and form a new conference that looked something like this:

North Texas                          Marshall
Texas State                          Middle Tennessee
Arkansas State                    Western Kentucky
Louisiana Tech                   Troy
Louisiana Monroe               South Alabama
Louisiana Lafayette            App State
Southern Mississippi         Georgia Southern

Errrr...that's pretty much the old Belt with a few CUSA comrades.
If you don't believe, you don't belong.

Problem is that's exactly what it should look like. I would drop ulm mostly bc nothing will ever come out of them. No market, no fan base and no money

Re: 5 schools AAC or MWC should invite

New goal if you are not in P5 is to be top rated G5 team, period. In 3 years conference affiliation will not matter as much. Sunbelt is starting to be a top G5  conference but this dilution with teams that are FB only and a 3 day drive are not the way to maximize limited revenue sharing.
I have a lot of confidence in our current administration to have us in a position to excel and TMo seems to understand our needs as well as anyone we have ever had.
Patience is a virtue,

It is true conference affiliation won't matter as much, but I would much rather have a home slate that consists of Southern Miss and Louisiana Yech as opposed to Idaho and Georgia St. I think it would help get up attendance too.

Minimizing travel expenses and maximizing attendance through geography which will build rivalries. Seems like an easy concept to me.

Agree with all of the above.  We just need to keep wining and the rest will take care of itself.

I would rather have UAB than Marshall.   UAB is closer and has history in FB and BB.

Wolves attack in packs. So it is best to attack them one on one, but even that can lend itself to be difficult.

Yeah, UAB brings nothing to the table except a shorter trip.  Hypothetically, Marshall would be in the other division, we would only go there every six years, so it wouldnt matter that much. Marshall has a good fan base and are a well recognized around the country.

I think the B12 will go after two more in order to have a title game to boost SOS and all that to maximize a spot in the playoff...my guess Cincy and UCF

so some things could go into motion if that were to occur
