2013 QB
Any idea who will be your next QB when Aplin graduates? I see a few names and one recruit but don't have any info on how they are doing.

RE: 2013 QB
It will be a wide opne competition.
Phillip Butterfield- Coming off two surgeries is probably not the athlete that the other are but he has a lot of experience.
Fredi Knighten- Parade All-American and true freshman who played a little this year. Undersized a bit but knows the position and is athletic enough to line up in the wildcat and returned a kick last weekend I believe.
Dezmond Stegall- Redshirting this year. 6'2" and very athletic. Strong arm and also could play many positions.
Damien Hobbs- Current commit who turned down A&M and Nebraska among others. 6'3" and an incredible runner with a big arm.
Sam Gibson- Transfer from LSU who is sitting out this year. Another athletic guy from Alabama who would provide a new dimension to our offense.

Re: 2013 QB
Butterfield probably has very little chance. He's just not athletic enough anymore, especially to run this offense. Based on tapes I have seen, I actually give a slight edge to Damion Hobbs. Keep an eye on Stegall though.
Hogan has moved back to his original position at WR.

Those are definitely the candidates although Hobbs will not land in Jonesboro until the summer I assume. My expectations are because of the time frame of Hobbs arrival and the overall battle for the position, there will not be any leaders named until well into fall camp. I could be mistaken but that is what I expect to see.

Butterfield had a little bit of experience playing a couple of years ago prior to his knee injury. He has barely seen the field this year. Fredi Knighten saw some "Wildcat" duties early on for maybe a play or two per game but has not played at all since about game 4 or 5. Stegall is redshirting. Gibson is sitting out due to transfer rules. And Hobbs will be a true freshman. A true wide open competition this spring and fall.

Re: 2013 QB
I'm impressed with Hobbs coming to ASU and think he's the future of the QB position in Jonesboro, but I have to think he may need to redshirt since all these QBs are available. The Sun Belt is really stepping up its game the last couple years, which means it's going to be harder to acclimate to it coming straight out of high school. But who knows, he's definitely a heralded recruit. Perhaps he'll step right in.

Re: 2013 QB
No problem Over50.
And Gus played Frazier at Auburn in year one as a wildcat QB after Cam left for the NFL. There were other QBs that had been at Auburn under Gus as backups the previous two seasons but Kiehl still saw time as a true freshman. This year with Ryan Aplin returning as the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year - Fredi Knighten still saw snaps early as a wildcat QB. Based on that type of past history I would be very surprised to see Damion Hobbs not see time in 2013. Truth is I expect him to compete for the starting job with the other QBs all the way up til game 1.
