Ron Washington

Ron Washington

I don't think he's going anywhere but he does need to evaluate and improve. I know I sound like a broken record but I believe this team got burnt out. When you're talking about "grinding" these games out and it's the end of July, then I think that's a hint. They could have put Jurickson out there sooner and more often. He could have picked up games at shortstop and second base. That would have helped Andrus, Kinsler, Young and Beltre keep fresher during a very hot summer.

The Rangers got rid of a hitting coach in early July. They say they wanted someone to help more on the mental aspect. Well, didn't look like they improved any, accept for Beltre (and his turn around was something he did mechanically) and they actually got worse. Mental fatigue? This was a bad move.

I think that Ron Washinton's job is safe, for now.

Re: Ron Washington

When I think back,   Wash wasn't as animated this year as in the past ---  don't know if it was from the media attention to his animation in the dugout, or if his enthusiasm was just less this year --  either way, I think it reflected on the entire team...  enthusiasm can be contagious, and it seems no one really caught it this year.   But overall, Wash is a keeper...  I'm not sold on some of the coaching staff however--  in particular, hitting and baserunning last couple of months of the season.... need some coaching upgrades in these areas for sure!

Re: Ron Washington

This whole team was impossible to watch for the last month of the season. I place my blame on Jamey Newberg for planting the idea of collective exhaustion from playing in the World Series for the previous 2 years. You know that the players read his blog, he represents the fan base and he has personal relationships with many of the players. When he posited the notion that the team was tired from the previous year, it gave them an excuse to suck. It's like he was saying, "It's okay if you give up, we know you're tired. We understand."

I think this notion is BS, I don't buy the notion that fatigue carries over from year to year, especially with a 3 month break.

I agree, The Yankees, Tigers, and the other playoff teams all have players that played most of their teams games this year. You didn't see them mailing it in the last month of the season. Cabrerra won the triple crown for Pete's sake. He doesn't look tired to me.
