Rangers land Fielder in exchange for Kinsler

Rangers land Fielder in exchange for Kinsler

Several factors to note with this deal. Texas lands the power left-handed bat that was so badly coveted after Hamilton's exit while also giving up Kinsler, who was always a little overrated in my mind. A jack of all trades, master of none. Can do most things well, nothing great. Never was too fond of his attitude either. With this move, Profar also moves in to full time 2b. Gain an All-Star 1b and a top 2b prospect. Along with Fielder came $30 million in cash. It's obviously a salary dump by Detroit in hopes to use the remaining money on Scherzer, Miggy and a possible FA bat. For Texas they take on $138mil for 7 years of Prince and for the next 4 years will only account for an additional $4mil of what would have been paid to Kinsler. Apparently Texas is still in the hunt to land McCann, Ellsbury, Cruz or Beltran.

This gives Texas the huge bat they so badly needed last year. Rotation of Darvish, Holland, Perez, Harrison, Lewis should be solid, if they can stay healthy. This puts Texas back into contention for a World Series. After protecting Cabrera and Braun to MVP's in three consecutive seasons, this could be a chance to guide himself to one.

Fielder had a LOT of off the field issues that were family related last year... interesting gamble by the rangers but i bet they could have gotten another 10 million out of the tigers

I don't think much of this move. I think Fielder is in decline & wayyyy over-paid. I'm ok with Kinsler moving on, but I don't expect very many productive years from Prince. Maybe if he would suddenly show an interest in fitness,he would be better. I also question his competitiveness . Very often the drive to succeed goes away after signing these huge contracts. I'll hope for the best...

Fielder doesn't care about anything but his money anymore.  Got his contract, and basically flipped the fans the bird in the playoffs with his comments.

"If they can do better have them come down here."
"I have to take care of my family first."
"I don't care that we lost."

These all comments in the playoffs, after games.

Plus there's this great base-running...  Hope he works out better for you guys.  No one here wanted him back and he was booed often.  This is a person that made his payday, and just showed up.

Will gladly take a player like Prince who has guided Miggy and Braun to 3 consecutive MVP seasons. Sometimes all it takes for a player or situation like this is a change of scenery. I think he was hindered by the massive ballpark as anyone can be. Never heard of any gripes from him in his Brewer days. He has massive power and is actually a good hitter all around. He can thrive in the Ballpark in Arlington. Not to mention the guy is only 29. He is right in the prime of his career and still has several good years left. He's always been bigger than most and it's never hindered him. He has missed 1 game in the past 5 seasons and 13 games in the last 8. This is the best bang for buck. He makes up for what Texas lost when Hamilton left. This team wouldn't have missed the playoffs last year with a guy like Prince in the lineup.

With that being said, I think an offensive move still needs to be made. If they can some how bring back Cruz or land Beltran, that would be ideal. McCann just signed with the Yankees. Ellsbury is a great player but I don't think Leonys Martin's skill set is that far off, considering $$$. Not to mention Ellsbury's injury woes over his career. Choo in my opinion is an outfield version of Kinsler. Jack of all trades, master of none. Can do a lot of things well, but nothing great. Solid defense and a good OBP.

The team is it's currently constructed is poised to return to the playoffs to make some noise. The offense is already better. The only question is pitching health. We have great arms if Harrison and Lewis can come back and remain healthy. A staff of Darvish, Perez, Holland, Harrison, Lewis is very solid and deep.
