Other playoff series
There hasn't been much chatter about the other three DS.
I stayed up too late last night to watch the Tigers at A's and am really glad I did. A final out comeback for the Amazing A's. That series is tied 2-2 with Game 5 late again tonight. I hope I can stay awake.
The Yankees also won in dramatic fashion after being down to the Orioles the entire game. Joe Girardi pinch-hit Raul Ibanez for A-Rod in the ninth and his solo homer sent the game into extras. Next time up, Ibanez went deep again for the walk-off win. Yanks are up 2-1 with Game 4 this evening.
The Reds are showing wear. Having been up 2-0, they have been tied by the Giants in a series in which the road team has won every game. Game 5 is the early game this afternoon.

I've enjoyed watching the Reds crumble.

Girardi pinch hits for a $29M guy at crunch time because he's in a slump? Isn't that against the rules?

RE: Other playoff series
Some great drama in the other series. The two Bay Area teams both come back from 0-2 deficits for force a deciding game, with the Athletics especially providing a lot of excitement. Former Cardinal draftee Coco Crisp is on the middle of the fun.
Was hoping the Orioles would go a game up on the Yankees, but Girardi's move of hitting for A-Rod works like a charm.
Like Brian mentioned, is this going to be Albert's fate in a few years? Angels have burned one of his 10 seasons, the first of maybe 5 real prime years, with no post season appearance. They really need to get there in the next 3 or 4 or else it might be that they'll have to do it "despite" Albert rather than because of him.
Do the Angels make a play for Josh Hamilton, to really tip the power in the AL West? Hard to imagine them being able to take on what it might cost to bring him aboard, but that's for another discussion and better suited to the off season.

Re: Other playoff series
It looks like the Redlegs are about to complete their collapse if they don't score some runs and fast. I have mixed emotions about the Reds losing to the Giants. First of all, I enjoy seeing the Reds lose more than any other team, so I am sort of happy about this. But second, I'm more nervous about having to play the Giants than I am the Reds, so I'd wouldn't mind seeing the Reds comeback. That and I really don't want to have to watch games starting at 9pm, so there is another reason I didn't want the giants to win.

I hadn't thought about the late start times. Would hate that. And I'd love for the Cards to be able to crush all Cincy's dreams in the NLCS. But my need to wish doom on the Reds is just too strong. Go Giants!

RE: Other playoff series
Nothing compares to playoff baseball. I just love this time of year. Especially when I get to watch the Cardinals participate! There are so many fascinating storylines, surprises, and intensity. I may go broke once again this fall, and my work productivity may be way down, but it sure is one helluva ride year after year!

I've been cheering for the Athletics cause of moneyball and think its a great story. Would love a Tony LaRussa world series (A's vs Cardinals)

The Reds are choking big time!
You couldn't even blame this on Cueto. They won 2 games on the road and threw Latos in his place today. They should have won game 3.

RE: Other playoff series
Not a single win was recorded by the home team in the Giants and Reds series. With a win today we could be only NLDS team to win a game at home. Crazy.

RE: Other playoff series
The Reds are reportedly the first NL team up 2-0 in an LDS that went on to lose the series.

Re: Other playoff series
Boy the Reds really appeared like a team of destiny as they looked incredibly resilient when Votto went down with injury and everybody stepped up in such grandiose fashion that they even played better with their star 1st baseman on the shelf. Then Dusty goes out with that heart attack and you'd think even more ammo and inspiration would have been added to their arsenal. To lose 3 straight playoff games at home in a situation like this borders on the unthinkable for their organization and it's fans. It will take them a long long time to get over this one.

That was a fairly epic collapse. In watching that ninth inning, after Brandon Phillips lead off and popped up, he was still in the batter's box on one knee just looking down and you could tell he was thinking "how could this happen?" They then got a walk and two hits though, and had their late inning guy up in Jay Bruce so it looked like it could still be a story book finish, but after fouling off some ten pitches Bruce flew out to left and our old buddy Scott Rolen, who looks about done, was easy pickin's and that was that.

RE: Other playoff series
I really thought the Reds were going to represent the NL in the World Series. I have to imagine it will either be us on San Franciso now. And honestly, even with the homer glassess off, I think St. Louis is without a doubt the NL's best chance to win a World Series. I just can't see Washington or San Francisco doing it. I'm very unimpressed with Washington, and the only reason why they are still in this series is bcause we beat ourselves with two poor offensive performances.

Re: Other playoff series
I believe Rolen is done in Cincinnati. Especially after the crucial error in Game 3 and the strikeout to end the series. He might be done period. A Hall Of Famer, perhaps?
Dusty Baker might be done in Cincinnati also.
