I'm starting to see a common thread here in that most of we Cardinal fans are Civil War buffs as well. I wonder if all baseball fans have an endearment for it or it's just Cardinal fans? It must be that warrior mentality that connects the two.

The Civil war connection is an interesting one. My Mother is a huge CW buff and i have traveled with her to many of the sights when i was a kid. My Aunt lived in Norfolk and we would drive down and see all the sites on the way. Been to all the battlefields and Museums between R.I and Virginia and most of them to the south. My two sisters were born in Biloxi so i have been to many in MS, AL, GA and the Carolinas too. I will say that standing over Gettysburg or looking out over the fields at Fredericksburg is a feeling impossible to put into words.

Re: New poster intro thread - Current Poster (re)Intro Thread

Here's my little Civil War story.

My husband and I attended a re-enactment here in CT not long after they finished filming "Gettysburg" but before the movie's release.  Many of the re-enactors participated and were more than happy to talk about their experiences while filming.

The story that really sticks out to me came from a member of the field artillery.  The film makers were setting up that sweeping shot artillery shot that precedes Longstreet's Assault.

The artillery re-enactor said they watched where the director was placing the aerial camera and realized that the camera was too close to the guns.  Said they had a brief moment of enjoying the notion of watching the repercussions from their pieces knock that fancy quarter-of-a-million dollar camera clean out of the air.  Then sanity took over because they knew the budget on the film was so tight that an accident like that might close the shoot.  They quickly got word to the director who re-thought out how to accomplish the shot.

Tough times don't last long but tough people do -

Darryl Kile

Neat stories, UCONN and Houston! There is a definite correlation between people who like both sports teams and war, in this case the Civil War. It certainly has something to do with a tribal connection.... competitive individuals who enjoy being a member of a certain tribe or group who faces off against other groups. The reward? Beating the daylights out of the other tribes. In the whole scheme of things the Civil War was not really all that long ago. I can almost guarantee you that even amongst members of this board, some of our ancestors directly did in each other during that brutal conflict. Of course will will never know who killed who, but after this many years it should be water over the dam anyway. My clan were Yanks. I consider Mags to be a good friend and his kin were Confederates. I just couldn't imagine my great great great great uncle taking a pot shot at his, but that very well could have been the case. If so, I hope he missed high and away.

I have no idea why this just popped into my head after over a month but the 16 at the end of Beef is a Ray Lankford reference. For some reason he was my favorite player at that time. I needed a number when I started high school baseball and he was my dude. I guess there wasn't a lot to pick from back then.
