New poster intro thread - Current Poster (re)Intro Thread
reading through the 2012 community vote thread, looks like we have a lot of new people joining.
2 of which i believe are connected to current minor leaguers adam ehrlich and jeremy schaffer (an assumption i'm making based off screen name)
i thought it might be cool for them and anyone else joining based off that popular thread to introduce themselves here.
not to mention, many forum boards in general have threads of this nature, so i thought, why not make one now :)

Re: New poster intro thread
Welcome to the board whoever the new members are.
This place has potential to be a good board. We just need some more participation.

Let me say welcome as well. It is a great idea to have an introductions thread. I look forward to hearing more from each of you and to the contributions you'll make!

RE: New poster intro thread
The first new poster to weigh in on this thread will ALWAYS be known for having brass balls amongst we Cardinal Nation posters....unless you're a lady of course.....if you're female, then I suspect a dozen red roses will be heading your way.

RE: New poster intro thread
I'll jump in. Not sure what everyone wants to know though. I'm pretty unremarkable I've been reading the site for a while. It seems the board has been rather civil lately so I decided it is as good a time as ever to start posting. The only team struggling more than the Cards is the Hawkeyes so I got that going for me which is nice. Edit: I case anyone is curious, Beef is my nickname. That was given to me when I was heavier by my brother and some friends. It stuck to say the least. I'm not sure they remember my real name.

Re: New poster intro thread
I'll go next, I guess.
Born and raised in Iowa (aka Cubs country) in a family full of Cubs fans, who I never understood the support of mediocrity when growing up.
My dream came true when my wife and I moved to St Louis in 2007 (Clayton) and could drive over on 64 whenever we felt like buying some standing room tix and enjoying a few severely over priced bud lights!
Now work took us back to Iowa City where I echo the feelings of the earlier poster who mentioned the similar struggles of our beloved Hawkeyes.
Found this board last year after being a frequent contributor on the Iowa SCOUT site.
The only thing that ruins my entire day or night as much as a Hawkeye loss, is a Cardinals loss.
Last Saturday was one of the worst when we lost to lowly rival, Iowa State only to have the Cardinals and a Tortie RBI single save my sports weekend.
Let's get this west coast trip wrapped up in style by taking 3 from LA.
GO CARDS!
Saw things so much clearer, once you were in my rearviewmirror.

Re: New poster intro thread
Welcome to Matt and Beef! Always great to hear from the beautiful state of Iowa. Do not let the name fool you i now reside in Illinois. Being that you guys are Cards fans i can forgive your Hawkeye allegiances. There are several posters from Iowa including one of our Mods. Take a bow Sport. Looking forward to what you guys have to say.
GO CARDS!

Re: New poster intro thread
I am not new to this board, but I have never really introduced myself either. I too, am an Iowan (who could have guessed that!)
I grew up on a farm about 65 miles southwest of Des Moines. My mom's father listened to the Cardinal games on the radio back when radios were the only means of transmitting games. Because of their widespread radio network, St Louis was a favorite in my corner of Iowa, at least until the towns got cable and WGN began broadcasting Cub games. My memories go back to the late sixties and I can particularly remember the fateful game 5 of the '68 series. I was at school, fifth grade I think. The janitor, who apparently knew I was a Cardinal fan, told me that the Cardinals were down 12-0.
I don't live and die by the Cardinals. I realize that (being a statistician helps) you can't win a world series (or even make the playoffs) every year. As Cardinal fans, we are blessed to have experienced the great successes we have had. And as frustrating as it is at times, like this year, I am thankful that the games still mean something this late in the season, as they almost always seem to.
GO CARDS!

Re: New poster intro thread
Great posts, Beef16, Hawk and Matt!! Just an FYI for all others waiting to weigh in on this thread, we also like it if you list your hometown, how you became a Cardinal fan and.......I know this sounds odd, but it was a tradition started by Nathan about 6 years ago.....only if you want to, but it would be very much appreciated if you list your IQ as well. Don't ask me why, you'll have to ask Nate about that one. Anyway, Beef, Hawk and EMatt have proven their mettle....who's next?

Re: New poster intro thread
Didn't we have a similar thread just a month or so ago? Be cool to merge them. Does anyone know what became of the original intro thread with the pictures of many of our posters?

Re: New poster intro thread
In the archives, there is a thread in which many present/former posters introduced themselves. The format was:
Name: Age: Hometown: Occupation: Favorite Cardinal(s): Favorite Cardinal Memory: Favorite MLB team(s) other than the Cardinals: Other favorite sports teams: Hobbies/Interests: Something unique about you that we wouldn't guess based on your posts:
Use this if you want or come up with your own.

Re: New poster intro thread
Yeah, these two threads are going to have to be merged. DomeBoys hasn't quite left me the key to the store just yet, so either he, Gags or UCONN are going to have to merge them.

Re: New poster intro thread - Current Poster (re)Intro Thread
Well, maybe some of our newer posters will feel more comfortable joining in if all of us chime in. So, I added to the thread title (thanks for starting this 'zilla) and will post my info (thanks for digging up the format, forschie):
Name: Leonda
Age: 54
Hometown: Central IL on the IL River
Occupation: got my kids off the college so am looking for work
Favorite Current Cardinal(s): Waino, Master Craig, Yadi
Favorite All-time Cardinal(s): The late Bob Forsch, Gibby, Willie, Ozzie (Stan is in his own class with no other peers)
Favorite Cardinal Memory: winning the '82 World Series. After a 15-year drought, it seemed like we'd reached the promised lad. Little did I know that a 24-year drought was coming
Favorite MLB team(s) other than the Cardinals: Absolutely None. Take my cue from Gibby - all of the other teams are the enemy. Likely the biggest reason I haven't gotten into fantasy baseball. Can't bring myself to root for non-Cardinals.
Other favorite sports teams: UConn women's basketball, U of Illinois men's football and basketball, love hockey in person but not so much on tv
Hobbies/Interests: American Civil War, quilting, cake decorating, hiking, animals
Something unique about you that we wouldn't guess based on your posts: I had a Shetland pony when I was young. Dad brought her home from work in the back seat of a Studebaker. Her name was Duchess and she was the start of my life-long love of animals.
Tough times don't last long but tough people do - Darryl Kile

Re: New poster intro thread - Current Poster (re)Intro Thread
Welcome all-
age: I'm 53.
hometown: Grew up in St. Louis. Live in DC now.
occupation: I'm a college professor.
favorite current cardinals: As you can tell from my moniker, I'm a fan of utility infielders, so Descalso is on my list, especially after inning 10, game 6. I'm most impressed by Yadi. Looking forward to watching Craig hit for a long while. I've been won over by Kelly. Waino is my franchise player, with Yadi close behind.
favorite former cards: Um, Phil Gagliano. :) Cepeda. Lou Brock and Gibby. Willie McGee and Vince Coleman. Andy Benes and Jim Edmonds. Musial, of course.
favorite Cardinals memories: a flash of being in Sportsman when I was a wee kid. Watching the world series in grade school classrooms. finishing off Detroit. Game 6 last year. Sitting way out in CF at Busch with straight A seats.
Other favorite sports teams: none really. I've decided to adopt the Redskins so I cheer for something local.
Other interests....Like Leonda, American Civil War. (Been to around 20 battlefields.) reading. movies. good food. long walks on beaches (oh, wrong post. sorry.)
Something unique....Oy. I give up on this one.
