RE: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread
Gorgen @ 50 The guy strikes people out. He was able to make it to AAA this year after missing all of 2011 and a chunk of 2010 due to what eventually led to Tommy John surgery. He's healthy now and had decent results even though 2012 was him working to get back to where he was prior to being hurt. His K/9 was right at 9.0, yep a batter an inning. In the even he's destined for the pen, he had a K/9 of 15.3 when pitching out of relief this past year That was 19 Ks in a little over 11 innings. I think we'll see him in the majors at some point. This isn't just a crafty guy in the mid minors, Gorgen has a great change up that is a true major league out pitch and sets it up with a decent fastball.

Really struggling over this selection. Rahmatulla, O'Shea and Ferrara all belong on the list. I pass on Gorgen and Wyatt. I like reliever Aiden Lucas better than those two. He did a very nice job for PB. He was hitting mid 90's and has done well at every level. I look for him to move to Springfield bullpen next yr.

RE: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread
why the gorgen hate?
the guy succeeds at the highest level. i looked through past lists and other than 2011 when he was injured, he has been good every yr in the organization. yet he didnt get any recognition then either really.
did he say something to alienate card fans or is there another reason he gets all the disdain?
you all wanna talk about potential in players, but there is a difference between measuring up to potential and actually succeeding at the highest level in the minor leagues. ask jon edwards, niko vazquez or any of the multitude of other supposed high ceiling guys that wished they can even achieve what gorgen has.

Let me offer Rob's post into evidence as Exhibits A,B and C as to why our Top 50 Prospect list needs to be expanded to a Top 60 list this year. Special circumstances many times require special adjustments. With the Cardinal farm system teeming with quality young talents, selecting only 50 players simply does not cut the mustard. Let's do 60!

RE: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread
Gorgon might be struggling for support due to the ERA over 4.00 and WHIP over 1.300.
His second year back pitching after TJ should be better. If he can have anything like the 2010 he was having before getting injured he should be well up the list next year. Unless he's pitching for somebody else, that is.

I like Rahmatulla, but with the momentum toward O'Shea, who I also like a lot, I'll go O'Shea for #50

Re: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread
Gorgen was dominant before his injury and closed strong in 2012, his first year back. We have Maness at #14 and Whiting at #25. Gorgen's stuff is very similar to them. Why the great differential?
If he wasn't an effective pitcher then why would Shildt put him out there in a crucial playoff situation. He had other options.

Welp I'm barking up the wrong tree with Jeffries it seems. I'm changing my vote to the guy I had right after him on my list with O'Shea
adding to cflood's tabulation:

O'Shea (6) DTFush,Beef,DiscDog,cflood, UncleDenny, HighJump
TRahm(2) LouisEU,Magnolia
The other Rasmus(2) Bling,Pugs

I have suggested that the voting continue as long as we minimum of 10-12 voters still interested and stilll voting. Bling will provide more guidance soon.

I haven't paid much attention to him this year post suspension or during the AFL but until he shows that he's performing playing full time again off the juice I would said yes he's off the radar. It's a testament to our system that a solid catcher and good leader according to teammates.
