Re: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread

Not enough love in this position for Lance Jefferies.  He's got a powerful body and is very fast. I think I remember a quote where the JC coach this year at the start of the year state that out of McCleroy/Tilson/Jefferies that Jefferies was the most polished and had that best power potential out of them.  I believe his season was cut short due to injury but I think he will be a pleasant surprise this year.

Re: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread

From last year's list, the following remain: Rahmatulla, Ferrara, Matt Williams and there could be argument for 20 yr. old Ronard Castillo, who did well at Johnson City. Matthew Young could be a real sleeper (played at Batavia and improved as the season went along). I'm afraid Vargas will reach minor league free agency before he gets to the high levels of the organization. So many guys yet, only one more slot after #49. I guess that is a pleasant problem.

Re: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread

I had Scruggs and Vargas deadlocked at 47 each, using my scientific 92 point prospect scoring criteria spreadsheet. What are the odds on that!? The only sound way to break a tie of this nature is to look at what these fine two gentlemen do off the field. An exhausting credit check and family and friend interview process ensued. Using my personally tested 86 point personality profile exam, once again proved fruitless in our valiant attempt to separate these two hidden gems as both Vargas and Scruggs finished in a 43-43 stalemate. At the end of the day, Scruggs' stellar job last season of reporting to we fans here at The Cardinal Nation, proved to be the difference. My choice for Top Cardinal Prospect #49 is Xavier Wallace Scruggs

Looks like Peoples-Walls for #49. I think I want to drum up support for Rahmatulla for the 50th and last spot.

Peoples-Walls is #49. Now voting for #50.

I'll vote for Casey (Jordan) Rasmus for #50. Started to heat up with the stick the last month. Did well during his brief promotion to Quad Cities. If he can heat it up early next year there's room to move in the system for a catcher. Good pedigree. Has to step up and I'm thinking he will.

Good pedigree??....oh that's right, Bling wasn't around here when RCWarrior used to prowl these waters.
Have to go with my pal Bling here though and tab Rasmus at #50.

Re: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread

Ben O'Shea at #50. Was drafted in the 10th round in 2011 didn't sign and fell all the way down to the 35th round due to sign-ability concerns. Big workhorse frame with excellent command of a high 80s-to-low 90s fastball and deploys an average change-up.

O'Shea is a year younger than teammate Tim Cooney. Both have nearly identical numbers posted at Batavia (adequate K rate, exceptional BB totals), and very similar fastball velocities.

Although Cooney has a slightly more diverse repertoire of pitches than O'Shea wasn't reflected on pro performances in 2012. O'Shea is still a year younger with perhaps more room for improvement and if he sharpens conditioning.

RE: 2013 Cardinal Nation Community Prospect Voting Thread

i'm sorry, but i think its an absolute crime if scott gorgen not on the list.

at the AAA level, he averaged giving up less than a hit an inning. for the entire 2012 season, he continued that clip along with a K per inning between AA/AAA. his final start against AAA competition, playing one of the best teams in AAA in omaha, he took a no hitter into the 6th.

good fastball, amazing changeup and mlb ranks him as #16 in our system.

to overlook him is to cheapen the purpose of a community prospect list.
