The innings pitched issue wasn't the # of innings but the rate at which Swagerty was going to go over his all time innings pitched number.  Essentially, last year Swagerty started Spring hurt.  He recovered in time to be a part of the Quad City rotation.  Until then he had mainly been a starter so he was racking up innings fast.  They switched him to relief pitch because he was already over his all time innings limit.  They didn't want to shut him down completely so they had him pitch in relief.  Yes, his durabilitiy is in question because he hasn't started since HS, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a starter in HS.

Essentially, he started to work on his pitches and see what we have as a starter and they changed him because they didn't want to blow his innings total out of the water.  Yes, he was a great closer at ASU who is to say he couldn't ahve been a starter.  If I remember correctly that team was pretty good.  Seth Blair and Mike Leake both started when Swagerty was a freshman.

I understand that.  I do.  And really, that's my point. Being used like he was last year probably led to him tearing up his elbow.  Not the best omen.

Wacha is not a good comparison at all though.  Perhaps Joe Kelly would be a proper comparison.  Kelly was a college reliever as well and for 3 years.  Kelly then increased his innings in 2010 to 103-ish while playing at Quad Cities in his first full year of pro ball.

I don't know if I necessarily agree, damage like that to the elbow is around for years until one day something just rips. Remember Waino had damage in his elbow since high school and it took that long for it to rip. It's one of the reasons the Braves were so willing to trade him becasue they knew he had a history of elbow issues. We simply don't know when the brunt of Swagerty's elbow issue started.

Eric Fortunato, John Gast and Jordan Swagerty were all voted on a top 10 list by cardinalsgm, this list is based mainly on proximity to big leagues I believe.

My vote at 12is for Swagerty.

Based on the possibility of being able to start or close eventually, proximity to big leagues.

While shoulder injuries bother me, elbows don't as much, I am a physical therapist btw, if it takes him to the end of the year or the beginning of the year ceiling is ceiling

starlin rodriguez @ #12. batting .300 w/ 8 HR in a pitching league and pitchers ballpack stands out to me more than a guy who hadn't pitched in a yr and we don't know how he'll return. due to those things, i think he should fall more than 1 spot...especially considering how there were so many others to step up in 2012, which includes rodriguez.

I had 11 votes for Garcia.  Not that it mattered in this one, but possibly in the future, it might.

RedBird5, BobReed, Gags,Sawat, Nigel, BrianP, HighJump, UncDen, cflood, LouisE, and me for Garcia.

Sorry for the neuroticism

If John Denny...(cough cough).....if Uncle Denny says "Swagerty has to be #12", then it must be so. Swagerty for me por favor, senor Carioca. Keep an eye on John De .......keep an eye on Uncle Denny's post count. When he hits 1000, it's going to be quite the party around here for that particular day.

Why isn't Pugs getting excited about my 1000th post? It's funny but I have been lurking here for years, but I only started my first semi-regular postings about the same time as Scadder. The other day I noticed his total and burst out laughing. Scadder is waaaaaay more interesting than I am.
