actually Posey beat Braun in a couple of categories so I guess there's some argument there, to be fair. This is really ignorant to how baseball is played. Yadi is a key component on every pitch while your guy stands in left field adjusting his sun glasses on 95% of all pitches. left field is the National league equivalent of the DH. Sure Braun has bigger offensive numbers as do almost all outfielders in comparision to catchers. Sorry i do not have any metrics to show the actual affect Molina has on every game so i doubt you can even understand this point of view.

Well said, CardinalNation.....well said!
Funny line, Crdswmn! However, I think it would be appropriate at this time to once again remind the female sector here at The Cardinal Nation that Slappzilla is a valued guest visiting us from the Brewers board, and as a guest, should be treated as such. Calling the esteemed Slappy names like "crappy", "ignorant", "lame", "ugly" and "misguided", though quite possibly true, does not promote good will. Thank you in advance for your future cooperation in this matter, ladies.

I've seen the kinds of things Slappy calls the "female sector" on Twitter, so I feel just fine calling him anything I want that passes the board censors.

Our hope is that the conversations here are on baseball, not the posters. Trouble started elsewhere should remain there and not carry over here. Some seem to enjoy playing along on this thread, but others who decide to avoid it entirely are not likely to miss much discussion of consequence. Either way, let's stay within the site guidelines, please. Thanks.

The catcher position is a lot more important than the LF position. You are right. I never said different.
The fact that you think that Yaddy's defense and pitch calling makes him a better ball player than Braun since Braun plays LF shows how well you comprehend major league baseball. I get this is the Cardinal board and you guys are going to back your guys while I back my guys, but c'mon. Yadier Molina is not a better baseball player than Ryan freaking Braun.
Defense can define the better in two players, but not when one player has better offensive stats across the board. Seriously. We're not comparing a pitcher and a batter. We're comparing two batters.
You know who's also better than Yaddy? Lucroy.

You know who's also better than Yaddy? Lucroy. Truth is that they are both the player at their respective positions in all of baseball IMO. If you are building a "dream team" you start right there. I think Braun is actualy a good fielder as far as left fielders go but catcher is THE position in baseball. The game is played on both offense and defense so to say one guy is a better hitter than another is only tell a part of the story. It is a big part but certainly not all that matters. I may be a homer but my honest opinion is that there is no player in either league that is worth as many wins as Molina when you take into account how many runs he prevents. how do we quantify the effect on an inning that a Molina pickoff or CS has? All his other stellar plays and game calling? This is the best catcher since Bench so i am comfortable putting him up there with anyone.

How many runs does something that small prevent?

How many times does Molina prevent a runner going from 1st to 3rd due to shorter leads? How many times a season does Molina kill a rally by getting a force at 2nd on a sac bunt? Yadi effects that game in ways that stats dont seem to measure..

I wouldn't blame Crdswmn for calling Slappy a naughty name, DomeBoys, as that Slappzilla sure seems to bring out the devil in the ladies.

ahhh...the Molina love is never ending. Best hitter, best at playing the catcher position, turns water into wine....
seriously
He is good. He is top 5.
He is not the best. He did just have his best year ever.
Let's see how full season Lucroy vs full season Molina goes in 2013, shall we?

Slap, how do you rate Lucroy at calling a game and holding runners close?

Slappy must not have seen her shadow, because spring is coming early to Lala Land. If the last decade of baseball is any able predictor of the future, I think this bet will fall hard just like anything else you say.

I don't think Lucroy is in Molina's class, but we'll see how they fare this season. A good comparison on these two teams this season will be the left fielders, Braun and Holliday. Both are potential MVP-caliber players.

Lucroy could hit 100 points higher than Yadi and still not be worthy to wash Yadi's jock. I have to admit that was funny though. I think the real Slappy is back guys.

Lucroy OPS = 881
yaddy OPS = 873
If you guys don't like OPS feel free to compare any other batting stats.
As far as comparing there defense, it's tough. Lucroy calls a great game. He did great with the young guys at the end when the Brewers made that late run. He guns guys out well too. If you guys have stats to prove me wrong throw them out there.
