Always nice to hear from the esteemed Slapzilla......though he usually doesn't make his grand entrance until just after Groundhog Day. I even thought for effect, Slappy was planning on being fashionably late this year by appearing not on the first day of Spring Training, but rather on regular season's opening day. I see UCONN edited a couple of Slappy's words. For you rookies around here, get used to it. On average, Slappy gets edited more times around this joint than when Howard Stern guest starred on the old Captain Kangaroo Show. Anyway we all like to guess what words were edited.

"Slamming your BLANK in the door, BLANK first".
I'm usually right on with these guesses. I'll go with "hand" and "pinkie finger".
Howard Stern on Captain Kangaroo? That is very creepy Pugs. eek

GO CARDS!

How bout that Buster Olney saying the Brewers have the 2nd most potent lineup in MLB sans the Angels?  That's right...

If our young pitchers do what they did towards the end of last season....you better watch out.

Brewers canned the entire bullpen sans Axford and the minor league guys they toyed with, which is good.  Unfortunately, sans Mike Gonzalez, the guys they signed are just as crap as last year on paper, and Gonzalez is a wild card.

I'll start the 2013 thread sometime during spring training.  I need to get some more intel on the 2013 team before I lock them in to win the division again.  Looking good now, but I will wait and present a case.

Yadier Molina up for MVP was a joke.  Braun got screwed.
Oh goody, can't wait.rolleyes

The Brewer fan hate of Molina is really ridiculous.  He didn't do a thing to any of you.  At least Reds fans have something to whine about.

Slappy:

You may be right about the Brewers lineup but lose the word sans.  It's tiresome.

That's a good way to do it. I've always liked retired numbers, but in reality it can get messy when an organization has been wearing uniform numbers for 80+ years.

Probably the best solution is to only retire the numbers for the best of the best, so with us that would be Stan and Red, and probably Gibson and Ozzie, and maybe Dean and Brock. Hornsby would be there but he only played with us briefly when numbers were worn.

Then everyone else is in some sort of circle of fame, like the Brewers have with their Walk Of Fame.

Johnny Logan was Red's double-play partner in Milwaukee during the '57 and '58 pennant years, as well as '59 when they tied for the pennant but lost the playoff to the Dodgers. Red was ill during parts of '58 and '59 though.

LOL

Carlos Beltran hasn't failed a drug test in his career. He's never even been accused of taking PEDs.

You're such a troll.

That Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog jazz for determining Spring's early arrival is a bunch of hogwash. This early Slappzilla sighting here at The Cardinal Nation is surely an indicator that we're going to have an early Spring though. Welcome Slappy with open arms folks!

Re: I hope all you Cardinal fans enjoyed your little run last

Why are you all so positive that Beltran, or any other Cardinal didn't take any PED's?

Are we all naive to where we don't think PED's are rampant in MLB?  You don't think today's technology makes it easy to mask them?

Dan Patrick spoke of a PED that is rampant in the minor league system.  The PED goes completely out of your system in 24 hours, and the only way a player can be caught taking this PED is if they're tested within the 24 hours of taking it.  Who's to say stuff like that isn't rampant in MLB?

You can go back in this thread.  I've admitted since day 1 that Braun juiced.  Anyone who thinks he didn't is a knob.  He got off on a technicality.  What I don't understand is how people think that PED's aren't rampant in MLB.  Probably another topic for a different thread, but that's my take.

Cardinal players are more righteous than all other players, unless they get caught.  And if that happens, their apology and contrition are more heartfelt.  Wearing the birds on the bat brings out the best.  This I believe 100% and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

So what do you consider to be most important?

2011 Braun
Avg:  .332
OPS:  .994
HR:  33
WAR:  7.7

2011 Kemp
Avg:  .324
OPS:  .986
HR:  39
WAR:  7.8

2011 Cliff Lee
WAR:  8.8

2011 Roy Halladay
WAR:  8.3

Be careful how you rate things.

Kemp deserved the MVP over Braun that year.  I said that on the Brewer board I used to post at and it didn't go over very well but it was the truth.  Having Rodgers and Braun win MVP awards in the same year was pretty cash though

I don't like the WAR stat at all.  I think it's whole premise is a joke.  I just used it cause I figured most of you liked it.  For batters OPS is the stat I like to rate by, and for pitchers I like to rate by xFIP

Point still stands though.  Braun was leaps better than Yaddy last year.  He was better than Posey to but the crew didn't make the playoffs so he had no chance due to how the writers vote.

So because a LF had a better OPS than the catchers, that makes the LF "leaps better" and more valuable? Okay.

Braun had a better EVERYTHING than yaddy. If it was just a few categories and just by a bit I'd gladly give the nod to Yaddy since the catcher position is a lot harder to play, but they weren't even close.

actually Posey beat Braun in a couple of categories so I guess there's some argument there, to be fair.

Yadi's defense, both catch and throw, handling the staff and calling games are widely thought of as top notch. That may have factored in.
