Re: I hope all you Cardinal fans enjoyed your little run last
I'm not sure Braun will be the same hitter this year without the juice. So in essence, they could easily be down the two best hitters on their team from last year, regardless of who was #1 and #2. Ramirez was a nice addition, but there's still going to be drop off on the offense. Not to mention they'll be zero offense coming out of the SS position.
Gallardo is the real deal, but there's a lot of risk with Greinke's head. Marcum had nice numbers last year, but he wasn't very impressive when I watched him closely during the NLCS.
The loss of Carp for the Cards is more than offset by the gain of Adam Wainwright. Lynn starting at the back of the rotation is also an upgrade from McClellan last year. The biggest loss is obviously Pujols and the additions of Beltran along with the growth of Craig and Freese should help to offset Pujols' absence. A more developed bullpen compared to the disaster we started with last season may be the biggest positive for the team year over year.

As much as Freese has been talked about since the postseason, I really don't think his importance can be overstated. A healthy Freese for say 120-130 games can be just as big of an addition as the subtraction of Pujols to Berkman/Beltran, if not a bigger addition. The difference between Freese and every other third baseman that has started for St. Louis over the last two years when Freese has been hurt, has been that of the difference of Pujols and Jon Jay. THAT is a significant difference. In this case it's going from excpetional to average (Pujols to Jay) vs. above average to terrible (Freese to everybody else). You add in Beltran though and you're talking about an offense that has the potential to be just as good as last year IMO.

You add in Beltran though and you're talking about an offense that has the potential to be just as good as last year IMO. Agreed, Freese's health is key. It seems like the time off he had from the broken hand really gave his ankles a chance to heal up. TLR also went out of his way to protect Freese's health down the stretch. Hopefully that all pays dividends this year. I just hope the fans don't expect Freese to go out and have a season that reflects what he did in the playoffs. Freese's ability to hit to all fields definitely gives him the chance to have a high average and also cause some balls to leave the yard, but I think I would be very happy with any OPS over .800 for him.

Prince was the 2nd best player on the team, next to, you know, the NL MVP?
No one else worth a lick? Yeah, Greinke, Gallardo, Weeks, Ramirez, Hart, Axford....all bums.
- Greinke lead the league in k/9 last year - both Gallardo and Greinke had over 200K's - Weeks was out for 2 months and still hit 20HR's - Hart missed a month and a half and still hit 29 HR's - Marcum lead MLB in road ERA - Axford had 43 saves in a row (without a blown save) and was 2nd in the NL in saves behind the ROTY Kimbrel - Ramirez won the silver slugger award last year batting .306 with 26 bombs. He's consistent with numbers like that year after year. - A-Gonz is a HUGE upgrade at SS over Yuni B defensively
oh, yeah, and, again...the whole MVP guy...
but, you're right,. Prince was the only hitter worth a lick on the team.
The irony in any of you saying I don't know anything about baseball is ridiculous.
Enjoy looking up to the Brewers all year fella's (and ladies if there are any here). I like the Axford guy but i will reserve judgement until he does it for more than one year. I think you guys will miss Latroy and Saito a lot more than you think. That was a really deep pen that will have a really hard time repeating. Rodriguez does not impress me as he is one hurt feeling away from packing it in IMO. Marcum is really good when he can pitch but my feeling is he will never make it an entire season with his arm. Wolf is average but brings a good veteran presence. no one will be missed more in a lineup than Prince this year as there is just not enough there on offense IMO. Our lineup is 6 or 7 deep while Milwaukee now has 4 guys and that is when Hart can play. My bet is that this club scores in the neighborhood of 100 less runs this year w/o Prince. Aramis is a nice player but dont forget he never won anything other than personal trophy's. In fact that is a common theme on that roster. In St.Louis sucess is measured in team trophy's. I picked the Crew 4th this year and that was before you showed up here.

You stated reasons, yes. There are no "facts" to talk about in April when projecting the final standings. There are just too many variables at play to know how any team will finish. There was no intention to stir up trouble.
I simply stated my case to the cardinal fans the kept coming at me stating that the Brewers were the "3rd best in the division at best". Slap, this post is only intended to point out your misguided reasoning as to why you started this topic. A discussion of whether you are right about the Brewers/Cardinals will be in another post. You state you did not intend to stir up trouble. You are only stating your case "to the cardinal fans the kept coming at me". How could you only responding to these Cardinals fans? You have only posted at TCN 10 posts. All 10 posts have been on this topic. If you are responding to something Cardinals fans have been saying on another website, you should have kept it there. Your first post said this: slappzilla wrote: ...because it won't happen again.

Sorry Cards fan. I hope you enjoyed your lucky run last year, because that's the last decent run you will ever see. and you expect me to believe you didn't intend to stir up trouble? I think you should try selling that line to someone else.

When I first saw this thread that's exactly whom I was thinking of. Maybe he will be a refreshing change. I know some people won't take to kindly to him in these parts but as long as he isn't too bad I guess I can live with him. Btw I wonder how he's feeling about Gallardo getting slapped around like a pinball today? --------------------------------------------- --- jackattack030 wrote: cardinalnationhouston wrote: jackattack030 wrote: Everyone ignore slappzilla he is the same troll on the ESPN message boards. I don't know if this has been mentioned already in the thread as I do not have time to read the whole thing, but do you guys think this dude could, in reality, be nyjer morgan (the most talked about 4th outfielder in the league.....5th outfielder now that they have that akoi guy)?

This Turdzilla fella seems like he is still enraged over the FAIL MODE Brewers. Hey, maybe in another 30 yrs you will get a whiff of the playoffs. Until then, continue to sack ride the best team in NL History. :) PPP

Re: I hope all you Cardinal fans enjoyed your little run last
Actually the Cardinals should be better without Pujols...now we won't have to watch so many double plays .
Although, we will have Furcal rather than Theriot, so maybe we will see the same output.
In all seriousness, it is way to early to know the true impacts of Fielder and Pujols leaving. (Not to mention TLR and Duncan)
All I know is that on paper and when healthy (and those are two very big things), the Cards look like the better team top to bottom.
I think we forget sometimes that we play the games for a reason. Don't get sucked into the Yankee way.

Wonder if the troll enjoyed Carpenter coming off the bench to lace a screamer into the gap! I think he should go over to the Cubs board as it would be a safer bet that he could berate that team and perhaps actually be right half the time.

Re: I hope all you Cardinal fans enjoyed your little run last
There is a lot of hate for the Cardinals out there from fans of other NL teams, especially Central teams. AL team fans don't seem to share that hate. I think that it stems in part from jealousy over the fact that the Cardinals have consistently winning teams and are seen as ":the team to beat" on a regular basis. Let's face it, there is a lot of hate for the Yankees, and some of it is a function of them having so much money, and some of it is because they get the bulk of the National attention because they are such a large market, but also part of it is that they win a lot. The Cardinals have often been called the Yankees of the NL because of their history of winning titles. Jealousy is a strong emotion so it is not surprising that other teams' fans would feel the way they do.
Of course, some of the more recent hate could also stem from dislike of Tony LaRussa. He wasn't exaxtly an endearing figure. But I think most of it is just old fashioned jealousy and that is something we fans will just have to put up with, and I for one have no problem with that.
