Great tip, Pads. Thank you for sharing. I will add it to the other thread, too.

RE: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors - 2012-2013

It appears the Cedeno signing is now official. I think that's a solid addition to the roster. No, he isn't overwhelmingly talented, but he's a seasoned vet and he can play a pretty slick SS, I don't care what the metrics say. I like the idea of bringing in competition, too. I know some have complained that it seems like a pointless move with Kozma and Jackson on the roster, but I always believe it's best to make guys earn it. I say let all the middle infielders fight for the roster spots and let the best players win. If Kozma is good enough to be a pro, then he shouldn't have a problem beating Cedeno out and the same goes for Cedeno.

The report also says the Cardinals DFA'ed Barrett Browning. This is kind of a blah move. I liked Browning when it came up, but I think that had more to do with his ability to throw strikes when it seemed like every other arm in the bullpen was allergic to the strike zone.

I mentioned this in the Carp thread, but what about trading for Bud Norris? It wouldn't take too much to get him and he would offer more experience than our internal options and would be cheaper than Lohse.

I had mentioned Capuano as a trade target about a month or so ago and it got little backing around here. Lilly could probably be had as well as Harang also. Capuano and Harang are both underrated and Lilly is solid when he can stay on the field. I see no way barring more than one injury to a SP that L.A does not move one of these guys. Carps seasoning ending injury should make this more likely now but the question is what would it take? Great call Illini.

Mo has made it clear that they are not going outside for a pitcher.  They have Lynn, Kelly, Rosenthal, Miller and maybe others and the two starters to go along with Wainwright, Garcia and Westbrook will come from those four.  Kids, it's going to be a lean year so we better get used to it now so we're not disappointed later.

Whew! Thanks for the advice. Otherwise, I would have had high hopes before spring training even started!

Lynn looks like he lost some excess lbs.

If Garcia, Westbrook and Waino can stay healthy its possible to have a very successful 2013. If Lynn can solidify his position and they plop miller as the 5th starter we could be ok. I know its a lot of if's but what else is certain at this point. Pitchers and Catchers haven't even had a group workout yet.

Anyone think Stubbs could be a fit in St. Louis? Great athlete, can play center, hits right handed and could be a great late game pinch runner. I still think Stubbs could develop into a really good everyday centerfielder. It's just a matter of him figuring out how to cut down on the strikeouts.

According to Jon Heyman's Twitter:
hearing stubbs is the # indians most likely ouftield trade bait. the # mets need to line up there.

Decent thought, KylMss, but Heyman now says the Tribe is NOT looking to trade Brantley or Stubbs. May have been corrected by someone in the Indians front office.

The CF backup situation could stand improvement, though. Maybe we will see something interesting during ST.

I doubt you mean Robinson or Chambers. Probably not Justin Christian, either. My hunch - and it is only a hunch - is that the Cards will not play Oscar in CF during MLB spring games. Keep the pressure down a bit for now. As you said, we will see...

I have no idea what it might be, but we are looking at such an inefficiently utilized roster spot, I just can't see how Mike and Mo could be uninterested at trying to improve the situation somehow.

Maybe we will have a 2nd baseman learn CF this spring. wink

Really? How many innings did Greene get in center field? My guess is that they are happy with Robinson for some unknown reason.

Not many at all.  But that was one of the sub-stories of ST a year or two ago, how Greene was going to learn to play CF to maximize his super-sub abilities.  Obviously didn't work.

I don't know if I would say it didn't work.  They had Colby playing CF in 2009, 2010 and 2011 until he was traded.  Then they had Jon Jay the rest of the time.  He didn't play enough innings out there to determine whether he could be an OF or not.

The main reason he never played more was his bat not his defense.  He is running out of time to prove he can hit enough in the majors.

RE: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors - 2012-2013

I think a move to the outfield would have been a Godsend for Tyler and it might still be. He really needs to show he can be a competent fielder at multiple positions to stick on a major league roster. He clearly has contact issues and he was a flat out butcher at second base for the Cardinals last season. Sadly, I think he's going to be one of those guys that always drips with potential – even shows it in rare glimpses – but he's never going to be able to put it all together consistently.
