Yes,  and some former MLB players can't handle the change. Example: Brad Penney.  But  there are many high caliber Japanese players in Japan and some have come over here to play and are making millions of dollars in our MLB.

I admire the Foreign guys who go over there to make a better living for their families- it's better than being stuck in the minor leagues here or not playing at all.  If they can make more money in Japan and continue doing the job they love then more power to them!  It is still professional baseball no matter how you look at it.

I agree that injured pitchers can't cut it over there.

Indy ball is still professional baseball, no matter what way you cut it. Not sure that proves anything except for guys drawing a paycheck to play a game.

Penny was examined by 2 different doctors and no significant injury was found. He admitted he couldn't adjust to the softer mounds in Japan and refused to take part in team practices and meetings. The Hawks let him work out on his own and then granted him his release after he requested to be let go.

I guess pitching in a crap hole is far different when you have financial security.

Brad Penny is not hurt as I mentioned before-he just signed a minor league deal with the SF Giants. Their plan is to use him as a reliever because Wilson is out for the season. They think is ready and have found his shoulder to be just fine.

And you know this from experience right?

Never been to Japan and never had financial security.

I wonder if they are buying bridges, too?  ;-)

I just noticed that Ottavino got called up for a couple of games early this month. He threw in two games for 2 and two thirds innings of perfection with 4 strikeouts.

He has 25 K's in 19.2 innings pitching in relief in the PCL for Colorado Springs. 22 hits is pretty high and his 7 walks are OK. Of course, his home games are at elevation so the hits are probably not out of line.

I hope he has an outstanding career.

PJ Walters got a complete game victory for the Twins tonight. Shame he had to be the centerpiece of the trade to get Rzep and company.

So great for P.J.   Just goes to show, that sometimes guys just need a change of scenery and manager and pitching coach who believe in them! I am really happy for him.

I'm really happy for P.J. but don't see any reason to throw TLR, Duncan and the St. Louis Cardinals under the bus.

It's not like PJ didn't have plenty to deal with during his time with the Cardinals. I'm still rooting for him!

I guess the same could go for Chris Narveson?
