RE: Former Cardinals sign deals
I assume that former STL first-base coach Dave McKay was asked and gave a thumbs-up to this Cubs minor league signing.

Re: Former Cardinals sign deals
Here is an interesting one from BA's Matt Eddy:
Rangers sign RHP Jon Edwards. Cardinals 14th rd pick in ’06 converted from OF last year in independent Pecos League.

Re: Former Cardinals sign deals
Also, another former Cardinal is heading to Japan. Renyel Pinto (LHP) is said to have signed a deal with the Softbank Hawks.
Spring Training in Japan starts in just about 20 days, give or take a day for traveling.

Re: Former Cardinals sign deals
I always thought that Edwards had the possibility to pitch. He really has a big arm.

Oswalt would be better.
BTW, I see where Rosenthal is reporting Ludwick has signed with the Reds.

RE: Former Cardinals sign deals
This seems as good a place as any to mention that former Cardinals broadcaster Wayne Hagin's contract was not renewed by the Mets after he spent four seasons doing their radio on WFAN.

Multiple news sources saying the Boston Red Sox have traded Marco Scutaro to the Colorado Rockies for former Cardinals pitcher Clayton Mortensen straight up.

I like most of the deals the Rockies have made this off season. I would have kept Ian Stewart, but who knows that deal may even be a good one in time as Stewart has struggled the last couple of seasons. Other than that they've been stock-piling young pitchers and gotten a couple of vets to bolster their lineup (Cuddyer and now Scutaro). Mortensen looked pretty good when I saw him a couple of times last year. Next Saturday is the first big SABR meeting of the Rocky Mountain chapter, and one of the features is a Rockies' employee who will have a full report on what they hope to accomplish in 2012. Usually I go to these SABR meetings dressed pretty much neutral, but this year I'm thinking of wearing my Cardinal jersey in honor of our World Championship last Fall.
