2012 Community Top 50 Prospects Voting Thread

2012 Community Top 50 Prospects Voting Thread

Time for the annual The Cardinal Nation community vote for its top 50 prospects!

For those of you new to The Cardinal Nation let me explain how this works.   For the 6th consecutive year TheCardinalNation.com user community has developed their own end of season prospect list.  It is a "top 50", well, because that's what we decided on at the time.  It is different than the "top 40' list that is put together by The Cardinal Nation staff in that this is done by a community vote.   The process is basically we start with choosing the number 1 prospect and after approximately a 48 hour period we will tabulate the votes, declare who the #1 prospect is and then repeat the process in choosing the subsequent prospects.   People are free (even encouraged) to cordially editorialize and try to influence others as this has the effect of educate all of us about the particular merits of a prospect.

Players eligible will include all players in the Cardinals system that have not either pitched more than 50 innings in the majors or has more than 130 major league at bats.

For discussion on eligibility and other misc thoughts related to the top 50 voting go to this thread: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=321&f=2089& t=7912271

Re: 2012 Community Top 50 Voting Tread

Let the voting begin!    Vote early, vote often!  (Just kidding).

To clear up eligibility doubts this is from Forsch31 on the administrative thread:

Players with major league experience this year who are still eligible:

Tony Cruz, Mark Hamilton, Andrew Brown, Pete Kozma, Matt Carpenter, Shane Robinson, Adron Chambers, Lance Lynn, Eduardo Sanchez, Brandon Dickson, Maikel Cleto.

The only 2 who someone could get confused as a possible prospect but aren't eligible: Tyler Greene and Allen Craig

I would add to the eligible with major league experience list  Bryan Augenstein, and Victor Marte.   And if anyone has any doubts or cares Amaury Cazana is also eligible (there is no age limit biggrin)

My vote for #1  -- Shelby Miller

I actually think Martinez or Tavares might actually have more upside but Shelby is a much surer thing.

Make that two for Shelby. Going from here to Springfield in one season says a lot about how the Cards view his upside.

I see the confusion.  I have edited my post.  Those guys should be added to the eligible list!

I agree that Martinez and Tavares are intriguing possibilities.  They both seem to be performing very well but Tavares needs to stay healthy and I think there are still some questions about Martinez, if I read between the lines correctly.

Miller #1

Can't be the "best" if I'm not invited!......

I will say the fuss about him avoiding his secondary pitches does concern me.  It wasn't that they asked him, it was that they had to ask him repeatedly before they finally felt they had to get nasty.

Then there was his "sweaty palms" problem......

I, for one, will not be surprised if Miller is not the consensus #1 next year.

Maybe he will be even a better prospect because of his off field issues.

CC, I thought I had Augenstein on the list as an eligible. redface  (Must be age creeping up on me.)  I know I thought about him being on there.  3up will feel better knowing he can vote for him in the top 10 now. wink
