2011 Community Top 50 Voting Thread

2011 Community Top 50 Voting Thread

Time for The Cardinal Nation community to vote for its top 50 prospects!

For those of you new to The Cardinal Nation let me explain how this works.   This is I believe the 5th year that the community has developed their own end of season prospect list.  It is a "top 50", well, because that's what we decided on at the time.  It is different than the "top 40' list that is put together by The Cardinal Nation staff in that this is done by a community vote.   The process is basically we start with choosing the number 1 prospect and after approximately a 48 hour period we will tabulate the votes, declare who the #1 prospect is and then repeat the process in choosing the subsequent prospects.   People are free (even encouraged) to cordially editorialize and try to influence others as this has the effect of educate all of us about the particular merits of a prospect.

The community has agreed that eligibility will include all players in the Cardinals system that have not either pitched more than 50 innings in the majors or has more than 130 major league at bats.

For discussion on eligibility and other misc thoughts related to the top 50 voting go to this thread:      http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s...9&t=6300550

Re: 2011 Community Top 50 Voting Thread

Voting for #1 is now open.

This vote will stay open until approximately noon, Monday, September 13th (unless a consensus winner emreges in which case we will close out sooner).

This vote is being held open longer than normal since people may not be aware yet that we are voting.  Future votes will normally close with 48 hours so check back often.

My vote for #1 is Shelby Miller.

I was actually still considering Zack Cox for my vote but if there was any doubt Shelby's pitching performance Wednesday night sealed the deal.

Re: 2011 Community Top 50 Voting Thread

Well, I just did a quick and dirty list of players I thought I could consider for the top 50 (I simply walked down the minor league rosters) and I wrote down 94 names.  I couldn't believe it but I really don't think I was too generous too many times.

We'll see how my new list shakes down today.  The only things in stone for me are 1 and 2.

Guys, we have a guy we can vote for who has proven it at the Major League level. He's got a 1.667 OPS (would be a record), and he has hit one home run per every 3 plate appearances (would be a record). Steven Hill might be the next Babe Ruth.

I vote for Shelby Miller.

Yeah, has to be Shelby at #1.  Mr.Hill is nothing to sneeze at though, Austy.  Even though he's not a kid anymore, Hill will crack my top 10 list this year.

Steve Hill?  What position would he move to?

He's a 1B/DH/C who has caught only because it would be awesome if he could stick at catcher - but I don't think that is realistic.

I suppose we could try him in the outfield like we did before this year, but he isn't nearly as valuable there...if at all.
