I'm hoping for a reversal of fortunes as the trending downward Wainwright matches up against the trending upward Jeff Locke. It is hard to imagine Wainwright bombing again.

The Pirates, by the way, have lost 10 of their last 12 regular season games at Busch. And Wainwright is 4-2 with a 1.24 ERA against them including the playoffs.

Hopefully with Molina back Wainwright can return to his old self of being pretty good.  I think the last few starts have virtually eliminated him from any Cy Young Award contention.  Unless Kershaw bombs in September, which i seriously doubt.

By the way, we now lead the season series against the Pirates 9-8.  If we split the next two games and end up with a 10-9 season advantage over Pittsburgh, does that have any possible implications for the playoffs and/or seeding?  I dont know where we are at with Milwaukee right now.

Yessir, it's time to trot out the old, dominant Waainwright.  He's been shaky lately.

Wainrights struggles started when Molina was injured...and looks like the Cubs awoke a sleeping giant in Holliday...since he became the one man wrecking crew in Chicago he has gone from #18 in rbi to #5 over 3 games and 12 rbi

Gregory Polanco has been called up and is already in St. Louis taking batting practice. No word on whether he will play, and no certainty that even if he does play that he makes an impact. He wasn't looking good when he was sent down.

He also went something like 4-for-26 in the seven games after he was sent down.

I wonder if Mike knows that Jay is hitting .212 BA points higher than Bourjos vs lefties this year. (.397-.185).

Or that Jay's career split vs lefties is .045 higher than Bourjos's.  (.286-.241).

Or that Taveras is outhitting Grichuk vs lefties by .071.

Would Taveras have been better suited to just spend the year in Memphis? He obviously hasn't been good but he doesn't even appear to be the same hitter I've seen many times. He's rolling over on the pictures on the outside corner. Those are the pitches before that he used to hit into the left field gap for a double. He has a good game last night, walking 2 times and is rewarded with a benching today.

Adams swings at the first pitch from a guy who can't throw strikes.

U just nailed it. Who taught Adams how to play the game of baseball. The guy was struggling, walked two batters in a row and Adams goes up there and swings at a pitch no where near the strike zone. Pitiful.

If we had another 1st basemen I would have Adams sit a series.  He's obviously gassed and needed to rest some.

Russell Martin homers and its now 1-0 Pirates in the top of the 2nd.

On a good note the Flubs hit the Brewers with a four spot in the first.  4-0 Flubs after one.
