Al said on the broadcast today that Brandon Phillips might be activated and play in this series.  And either Dan or Al said that Molina was getting close also.

Looks to me like Jay Bruce is starting to swing a hot bat.  I hope Freeman or Choate is ready for him in the latter innings.

The Reds are coming into town after having lost a doubleheader today - they blew the first game when the Rox scored 5 in the bottom of the ninth. Chapman started that inning with four straight walks (Rosenthal isn't the only struggling closer).

The Reds will be coming to town exhausted and dispirited. I hope.

FWIW, in the three pitching matchups, the Reds starters all have a better ERA than the Cards ones and also have more wins (2 of 3) or equal to (1 of 3) the Cards starters.

I saw that, and it just amazed me.  I mean, how does a manager allow that to happen?  I mean, after three straight walks shouldnt he have realized Chapman didnt have it?  At least it only took Matheny three walks to get Rosenthal out of there yesterday.

A lot depends on the level of wildness. All walks are not created equally. Was he throwing balls to the screen or getting squeezed by the home plate ump on borderline pitches or something in between?

Pretty big series here, and the pitching match ups are pretty even right now. We need to keep the Reds and Pirates at bay while staying close to the Brewers. The Reds have a chance to creep back into the race, while we have a good chance to make it very hard for them to catch up to us (we're 5.5 games ahead of them now).

Meanwhile, the Brewers host the Jays then head to San Diego, so we probably can't afford to lose a bunch of games this week.

The Brewers host the Pirates this weekend.  They just got back from the west coast, do they head out there again soon?

Edit:  Yes, the Brewers do go back out west next week.  Three in San Diego and then three in San Francisco.

I'll be at the game Monday in SD.

We really could put a nail in Cincinatti. Pitts has ATL. SF has CHC and Mil has Ari.

We have a chance to cut the Reds' throat in this series. They are coming off losing two heartbreakers in Colorado yesterday. Their bullpen is very weak. I would like for the Cards to get to Leake early tonight to get to their bullpen. He gets flustered very easily.

The Braves just hit the Pirates with a 6 spot in the first inning.  6-0 heading to the bottom of the 1st.  Of course, the game isn't over yet.  If they come back it could be a big win for Pittsburgh.

Jay Bruce: Cardinal killer. Forget that he has been ice cold before this game.

4-3 Reds. Masterson has unraveled here.

Masterson struggling in the 5th. Wheels just came off. He's looking really bad.

I feel like I've been watching the same Cards game every day for the past several. We keep getting early leads and then letting the opponent back in the game.
