Well shoot, I was just saying how we need to get him more work so that he can hopefully get back closer to his pre-injury form.

We've got a few lefties available these days.

Re: Motte to DL

Tough break here. It will likely be tough to get healthy and earn a major bullpen spot by the playoffs now. This to me suggests that Siegrist will get a heavier load and will have a chance to establish himself as the 7th inning guy.

Hopefully Motte is okay by October. We may need him in the playoffs.

Probably not. Team needs to address the depth on the bench before September.

They have the money and prospects to address both moves and they know it.

Has Lindstrom gone through waivers? If not, he is not tradeable.

Also, he is clearly not yet right. After four rehab games in Triple-A, his ERA is 17.18. So maybe he would clear. ;-)

Well Walt they need somebody! They've needed a righty for 2 months.

I think Guinness is on the horn about a record for lefties in the pen.

Oh and if we could investigate if the injury is related to any rain delay activities last night that would be great.

Thanks!

Is Aardsma still hurt? He seems like the logical replacement in this situation.

Motte was horsing around last night and sliding on the wet tarp during the rain. I wonder if that's how he hurt his back?

Didn't Herzog, one year, have about four lefty starters and three or four lefty relievers on the staff?

Re: Motte to DL

As far as starters, the best and most balanced rotation in the top four that I recall are the 1971 quartet of Gibson and Reggie Cleveland from the right side, and Steve Carlton and Jerry Reuss on the right side.

Had management been more baseball savvy and less given to emotional whims, can you imagine the success the club would have had in the '70s and even into the '80s with Carlton and Reuss at the top of the rotation?

Whitey had the dynamic due of lefties Rick Horton and Ken Dayley in the bullpen for a few years.
