Grichuk - 20 hr's and counting

Will he never get called back to the show?  Wassup with that?
Atlanta Braves: 13 years since their last NLCS, 15 since their last World Series - LOL!  Must be the infield fly rule's fault!

As soon as he learns to cut down on the K's, I'm all for it too..... but he needs to do that first and then he can either be the CF or the bench/OF bat with power which they desperately need.

Re: Grichuk - 20 hr's and counting

In his trials earlier this year he looked over-matched at the big league level. Glad he's playing every day and doing well. He should get a shot at the center field job next Spring. Might get a late season call up as well.

In fact, if we're out of it in September it might be good to put him in center every day for the last two/three weeks of the season.

Think he'll be up to replace Craig.

Robinson - .304 but almost no HR's
Piscotty - .288 with 6 HR's
Grichuk - .263 with 20 HR's
Pham - a sizzling .330 (and 6 HR's)
Butler - a SMOKING .360 but only 4 HR's

Hmmmm... nice to have choices

If the Red Sox didn't get Craig. I feel like they would've walked away with Grichuk and another outfielder above Double-A in the Lackey deal. He needs to keep playing everyday continuing to achieve success at the plate and working on playing a more acceptable defensive center field. I'm surprised a bit of the trio of outfielders that nor him or Pham got the call over Robinson.

bh-

Joey Butler got shipped to Japan, so isn't an option now.  Still, nice to have some possibilities down there.  I was struck that Mo talked about Piscotty as a future possibility today but not the rest of them.

He will be back up in September. Right now he needs to get as many abs as possibly and he wouldn't get them here.

I noticed that as well.

Robinson is the only one who would not benefit from playing everyday.  I think that is the reason he's the one called up for now.

Memphis's whole starting OF, Piscotty, Grichuk and Pham could be in St. Louis next year, along with Holliday and Taveras.  I wouldn't mind going with that.

So did I.

Taveras needs to play every day.  Robinson coming up tilts playing time more firmly towards Taveras.  Grichuk, Piscotty?  Not as much.

I think we'll see him and/or another young OFer come up with expanded rosters. We're going to need some bench depth come playoff time, because right now we're looking to have very little unless Yadi makes it back and AJ becomes a bench hitter.

Don't forget that Memphis is in a playoff race too. Why dismantle their offense in a critical time just to use Grichuk as a spot starter or pinch hitter in St. Louis. Let these guys try and finish their race in Memphis and then talk about who gets called up in September.

Robinson has contributed very little every time he has been called up this year. I 'm beginning to wonder if Matheny even knows how to evaluate talent, or if he simply goes with the player that he likes personally.

I doubt if Matheny had a say in who was called up.

As far as Grichuk's 20 homeruns are concerned.......what are the dimensions of the ballpark he is playing in down in Memphis?  And the other PCL parks for that matter.  Would that contribute to his homerun numbers?

Pham outplayed Robinson in ST and at Memphis. Robinson doesn't run well, doesn't hit for average, and doesn't hit for power. He's been even worse as a pinch hitter. You can't call Robinson a veteran either. I can't believe Mozeliak wants this guy on the team when he has never ever been able to contribute much. This smacks of favoritism.

I think LF in Memphis a bit short IIRC.

Same goes for Descalso.

Re: Grichuk - 20 hr's and counting

Descalso got some clutch hits 2-3 years ago and as a result he just keeps hanging around.  Plus its perceived he can play multiple positions.  I guess the memory of his hit against Washington in the 2012 playoffs is keeping him around.  Robinson can also play just about every OF position, i guess.

But i'm like the others - what they are doing in a Cardinal uniform, or any big league uniform - is beyond me.  They are automatic outs.
