This series sort of worries me.  Of course, with our pitiful offense about every series worries me anymore.  Like i have always said, the Cubs get up for the Cardinal series since its the closest thing to a playoff atmosphere they typically ever see during the year.  They play with more intensity against us than other teams as noted by the fact they have a winning record all-time against St. Louis.

I see the Reds continuing to fade and the Pirates continuing to be a force.  The Reds have Washington in Cincy this weekend and i'm predicting the Reds lose at least two of the three.  I am just hopeful we can win two of three at Wrigley.

I'm heading up to this game shortly, and that lineup makes me want to sell my tickets.....

It might be easier to upgrade the pitching instead of the lineup, but 29th in the league in runs scored can't equal a good team.  This team needs a bat and one with power, quickly.  Or let's start talking about 2015 instead?

That lineup does represent a lot of missing pieces.

29th in the league would be amazingly bad... ;-)

LHP splits driving today's lineup. I'll save my "Where's Oscar?" rage for the weekend.

Hope all our friends here that are headed to Wrigley have a good time!

If you are going to sort-of platoon, but not totally platoon, I'd put Bourjos and Wong in there rather than Jay and Ellis.  Way better defense and speed. and you're still going with one lefty hitter.

And the defensive improvement is in key "up the middle" positions.

If your club can't score many runs, you gotta make it so you don't give up many.

Jay with a two-run, two-out triple in the first. So much for my thought of not using him (at least for now)biggrin

Night and day the effort at the plate compared to the games against Tampa. Our hitters are fighting every at bat and making it tough for the pitcher.

That pitch did look a little low to Holliday, but then it was too close to take with 2 strikes.

Kelly got a call on a pitch in about that same location in the first.

So it is going to be one of those kind of days. Hope the boys brought more than three runs with them to the ballpark today.

Jeez, now Kelly gets beaned by a foul ball into the dugout. Man, tough going for him this year - hopefully this is nothing serious but he did go down to the clubhouse and did not look real good in doing so.
