I have one that I think highlights the unique culture of winning in St. Louis.
Let's compare with our Missouri neighbors, the Royals. There's a team with plenty of talent. They looked pretty good against us and have shown some flashes of brilliance this season (they dominated Detroit a few weeks ago in a series). They have maybe the second best catcher in the game besides Yadi, an ace starting pitcher, and plenty of young talent. But after taking the division lead, they've wilted so far in the season's second half. What's the difference between the Royals and Cardinals right now? Both have very good pitching, although the Cards had more pitching depth in the rotation. Both have good bullpens. Both have talented lineups under-producing. The difference, I think, is simply knowing how to win in crunch time. The Royals are 10-18 in 1-run games, and they always seem to wilt just when they earn the spotlight. They simply don't know how to step up to another gear and make the playoffs. A lot of teams do not. The Cardinals do, and that's part of our culture of winning. And it's the continued experience and expectations of winning that help this franchise stay competitive year after year. That's something we shouldn't take for granted and should enjoy.

Because he is an excellent defensive player. Because he brings speed as a weapon. Because he is improving offensively. In short he hasn't been given a chance to play on a regular basis and he deserves it.
