The Dodgers have their rotation set for the three game series, wonder why Matheny hasn't posted Saturday's or Sunday's starters yet? Hmmmmm? Welcome back from the break everybody.

GO CARDS!

What I'm hearing in twitterverse is that Waino is not starting this weekend.flushed

Rematch of games 1 and 5 of the NLCS, as Kelly is going for us. Hopefully Kelly can get back to earlier form after that rough outing coming back from injury.

It is odd that Waino isn't going in this series at all, but maybe Matheny wanted to give him some extra rest. Either way, I'm not too worried, but this should be a good series if our pitching is decent.

an overthinking man would say maybe they're setting up the rotaion for down the road but that is a long way away.

Joe Kelly now becomes a big key for the rest of the season. He was really on his game before pulling the Hammy. He really has electric stuff if he can get improve his location. Go Cards.

I was thinking about last year over the break and remembered that I didn't really have confidence that we could do much in the playoffs until a) Kelly showed consistency when he filled in for the second half of the year, and b) Wacha stepped in late and showed promise heading into October. It's easy to forget just how good Kelly was last year and at the beginning of this year. He beat both Kershaw and Greinke last year and rarely got knocked around. If he can get his consistency back, we will have three solid starters with Wacha on the mend.

No complaints here. Let's see if Kelly can bounce back today, and how Kottaras handles the plate.

Man, great work by Kelly in the first. He couldn't get the pitch he wanted in on the hands of Gordon, but after allowing the leadoff single, he did a masterful job there holding Gordon after three pickoff throws, and then induced the double play ball on the first pitch. The walk to Puig was fine; he's still getting his breaking ball under control. Pitch count low.

Oh my goodness, who is this team? Carp works a walk, Wong's speed forces an error, Holliday drives in two, the Big City goes yard. It's 4-0 and Greinke hasn't gotten an out yet.

Greinke is one of those bad pitchers the Cards can't hit....

Great start, let's see if Joe can stand prosperity and how deep he can go into the game. Geeky threw 31 pitches in the first inning.

Surprise surprise, Kelly gets out of a jam with another double play. After 2, his fastball looks really good. He's hitting 95 consistently with some good movement. His curve isn't quite there, but he did get one strikeout with the best curve he's thrown all game. He's at 31 pitches, so good shape.

Matheny sure didn't fight too hard on the HBP. It was clear he was swinging and should have been ruled a foul ball.

Re: 2014 MLB game #98: Cards vs. Dodgers: Sat 7/19

Nice walks by Peralta and Taveras. Those are easy to overlook, but Greinke was about to even out the pitch count after 3 innings, which would have been a big rebound for LA. Kelly got unlucky last inning, but if he can get through the bottom of the order in the 4th, he'll be an inning ahead in pitch count.

Still 4-1.

Nice 1-2-3 inning for Kelly. He's over 70 pitches, but looks fine. He'll get the top of the order after Greinke in the 5th, so we'll see how long Matheny let's him go.

Bourjos batting for Holliday for precautionary reasons.  Is this related to the slide where Holliday got banged?  The last time we removed a guy for precautionary reasons after an injury on a slide, it didn't turn out so well.
