The home run derby has become an anachronism in this new age of depressed offenses.  It was a big deal in the steroid era, but no longer.  Time to retire it.

I feel the opposite, watching McGwire, Sosa, Bagwell, etc in the late 90's ruined the HR derby for me at that time.

Chris Berman ruined it for me.

I like the HR derby. Ever since watching reruns of the original "Home Run Derby" that was filmed between the 1959 and 1960 seasons, I like this sort of thing.

Think I'd take Bautista at 6-to-1 odds to win tonight.

Berman is the Harry Caray of home run derbies.

A home run derby without roid stoked bashers doesn' cut it. They need to come up with something else.

An old timers game the evening before the ASG would be worth watching.

That could be pretty cool. I wouldn't be surprised if Frank Thomas could still club a few homers in an HR derby.

ZzzzzZzzzz was all this was, really seemed like first round winners were just punished making them sit for 1.5 hours + before hitting again

Yeah, the new format didn't work and it certainly punished the winners of round 1.  They'd be better off with a cumulative score between round 1 and round 2 that would give an incentive to hit more in round one but still get those guys up for a few hacks before they had to sit around for 2 hours.  Come to think of it, isn't that pretty much the way it used to be?

Also, not sure what ESPN was thinking.  Coverage of the Derby started at 7 and they had the celebrity softball game scheduled to come on at 9.  I realize they had a rain delay and didn't start until 8 , but the final wasn't over until almost 11.  I have no clue what time the derby was supposed to start but clearly it wouldn't have been until at least 7:15 by the time they got through all the hype at the beginning.  No way in the world they were ever going to get this thing down to an hour and 45 minutes.
