What's with the Craig rumor?

What's with the Craig rumor?

What is the deal?  Talk about a "play me or trade me" thing?  That he could reject being sent to Memphis for a few games to bust out of his hitting slump?  There is some crazy sounding stuff out there.

Anybody know the real deal? (if there is one)
Atlanta Braves: 13 years since their last NLCS, 15 since their last World Series - LOL!  Must be the infield fly rule's fault!

Some context would help a lot. Where did you read this? How about a link or two, please?

Would need to know what "rumor" this is, however Craig is established enough that it would surprise me if he went to the minors.

Usually the way established major leaguers work on their game is through additional batting practice and video. They'll watch video from when they were hitting well, and from their current swing, and work on correcting the faults. But that's all at the big league level.

Craig has four days to work on this.  Maybe him and Mabry can figure something out between now and Friday night.  Right now its about a tossup as to who is the weak link - Craig or Taveras.

Does Craig have sufficient service time to refuse an assignment to the minors?

I'm amused, though, by those on the P-D chats and elsewhere who want to put Craig on the DL.  As Strauss put it, "You can't put a guy on the DL for a broken bat."

Is this some rumor on the streets of STL? Nothing on the web so far.

You know the easiest way from Craig to get more PT is to hit better. Make no mistake about it. Oscar is up for a couple of reasons. For us to evaluate him and to light a fire under some players who are having down seasons.

So far Taveras is not lighting a fire under anybody. His OBP is .225 and that my friend is atrocious. There is a lot of nonsense out there about Allen Craig right now like the guy who said "he gets a hit every third or fourth day" right here in this thread. The guy has put together some bad at bats this year for sure but the people that want to trade him for Peavy or a bag of sunflower seeds simply don't know a thing about baseball. A 29 year old player doesn't just suddenly become a bad hitter over night. My guess is he is trying to play through an injury that he won't admit to. It has happened before.

If that was the case, he wouldn't be much of a team player, would he?

You don't think it goes unnoticed that the teams top prospect is up and getting playing time? I mean he's getting the majority of his time in RF.

I've never said to trade Craig but I think the team wants to see if they need to trade for a bat or if Oscar can provide a good spark and guys can pull it together offensively.

Ha, ha, Craig is 3 for his last 23, you do the math genius.

Oh, and btw, Holliday is out hitting him by 21 points, has more RBI and eight more doubles and you are critical of Matt quite often.

Re: What's with the Craig rumor?

Still don't know what this rumor is supposed to be.

As for playing time, since Taveras most recent recall:

The Cards have played 13 games.

Holliday and Taveras have played in 12 of those 13 games, Holliday getting 40 AB and Taveras 34.
Jay has played in 11 of 13 games, getting 38 AB.
Craig has played in 8 of 13 games, getting 31 AB.
Bourjos has played in 8 of 13 games, getting 11 AB.

Try actually watching the games instead of talking through your hat and you'll see that Craig is *not* playing over Taveras.  Rather the opposite.

Re: What's with the Craig rumor?

On mlbtraderumors they had a list of potential trade candidates and Craig's name came up. Stating due to his contract that a trade seems unlikely. Adding that if we would trade him we would be selling low due to his putrid season.

Re: What's with the Craig rumor?

Allen craig is not in a slump...he is either hurt or something else is going on. It looks like his back foot to me...hes turning on balls and fouling off pitches that he used to drive to the rf gap and out...

Maybe swinging at bad pitches to try to push something to happen?

Edit: re trade rumors all ive heard was boston...and there is no way we were giving him up in a peavy deal

Also..did anyone consider that this entire thread might be a fishing expo for this guy to get twitter followers? Hmmmm

Craig's issue is almost exactly the opposite. He is hitting every ball to RF.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs...new-left-field/\

Before this year, Craig hit 16% of his balls in play in the air to left field. He hit 5.5% of them in the air to the left field, beyond 300 feet. This year, respectively, he stands below 6% and 1%.

Re: What's with the Craig rumor?

I was listening to a podcast last night on Wong and basically they're saying pitchers aren't beating him inside with fastball but they expect that to change after last weeks explosion.

Freese had the same issue last year. So it will be interesting to see how the hitter and coach react.
