Looks like Perez is hitting 288 in Memphis - will he get the call to backup Cruz?

Re: Yadi injury rumor on twitter

With rumors flying around, a press conference scheduled to discuss the injury, and ominous shifting of catchers in the minor league levels I am beginning to fear the worst.

Nothing is official yet but a press conference being scheduled is a sign of something serious.

Well they don't schedule press conferences to tell us nothing is wrong. Moz better start looking around. Maybe now we can add the guy i wanted this off season to back up Yadi. His brother Jose.

Re: Yadi injury rumor on twitter

This could be really bad if Yadi is out for any extended time. We have a young pitching staff that really needs him back there.

I can't believe how many important players we've had injured this year, yet we're still in the hunt. Normally this would be a lost season if not for the incredible depth we have.

The rumor was correct. Surgery required.

Re: Yadi injury rumor on twitter

I hate to say it, but I think that will sink this season. Our pitching has been outstanding to keep us in the hunt, but I don't know if that's going to hold up without Molina basically out until the playoffs.

It's official. Out 8 to 12 weeks. 8 weeks would be the first week of September. 12 weeks would be the first week of the playoffs.

Rumor is 8-12 weeks. He could be back by September. Until Let's get AJ Perzynski when he clears waivers to match with Cruz.

Read this before throwing that statement back out there. But there's always that scenario where his attitude could change playing on a contending team like the Cardinals.

Oh God no! We don't want a jerk like that around here. Besides he is an AL guy. We need a guy that can catch to back up Cruz. Offense is secondary IMO.

Sheesh, that's a tough one. Maybe the one position player you cannot afford to lose.

But then Cruz is pretty darn good. It will certainly be interesting to see where we are when (if?) Yadi is able to return.

Ironically, I came in on the game on ESPN in the third inning last night and saw Cruz playing. My first thought was "hey, that's great that Matheny gave Molina a night off - he should do that more". Then I heard that Cruz was playing because Molina was injured and it was sort of a "I should have known Matheny would not do something that I thought he should do! "

Cruz is one of, if not the best backup catcher in baseball when you look at his overall game. He's no Molina, but then there is no other catcher who is in Yadi's league right now. I'm not quite ready to join the hand wringing, woe is us crowd just yet.

Re: Yadi injury rumor on twitter

Cruz will do an adequate job filling in, if not better.  As we all know how well Yadi handles the pitchers, he will also provide excellent mentorial support to Cruz during this period.  As frustrated as I get with Matheny at times, I think it's good he's our manager for this specific situation.

Offense is secondary???  Are you kidding?..... have you seen how bad the team is at scoring runs as it was before this?

It's time for Mo to pony up and get Stanton and add AJ P to pair with Cruz.......
